The 2024 summer theatre season is already in full swing in St. Louis, Missouri, with three exceptional comedy-dramas opening last week. St. Louis stages opened their 2024 season with STEEL MAGNOLIAS starring a mostly local cast. Broadway World called the Stages St. Louis production “wonderfully funny – creating contagious uncontrollable laughter.”  Albion Theatre opened a terrific production of Alan Ayckbourn’s WOMAN IN MIND with a tour-de-force performance from Emily Baker in the lead role. Baker is on stage the entire production. Stray Dog Theatre had audiences laughing out loud with their production of David Lindsay-Abaire's RIPCORD. All three productions run through the end of June. The most anticipated productions of the remaining summer season include shows at The Muny, Stages St. Louis, and The New Jewish Theatre.

Taye Diggs, who appeared in the original Broadway cast of Rent, will be appearing in a new psychological thriller from writer/director Ariel Julia Hairston called Both Eyes Open. Alongside Diggs, the cast will include Gail Bail as the central character Ally, along with Joy Brunson, Christie Leverette, Tristan Mack Wilds, Michael Oloyede, and Carla Fisher.

Due to popular demand, Jonathan Harvey’s Closer to Heaven, with original music by Pet Shop Boys, will be extending its run at the Turbine Theatre this summer, now playing until Saturday 27 July.

Lorna Dallas will bring her latest musical offering, “Snapshots” to Crazy Coqs for two nights only.

TheaterWorks Hartford has announced an extension of their season closer SANDRA written by David Cale, with original music by Matthew Dean Marsh, which will now close on Thursday, June 27, 2024. 

Keeping the tradition of releasing new music every three years alive, vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Myles Kennedy – known for his work with rockers Alter Bridge and Slash and the Conspirators – is back with his third solo album, The Art Of Letting Go. The album marks the return of Myles, backed by his band comprised of Zia Uddin on drums and Tim Tournier on bass.

The Tony Awards has announced that actor and singer Skylar Astin will host the American Express “Broadway Fanfare” simulcast event on Sunday, June 16, in Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The event will kick off at 6:30pm EST with a pre-show set beginning at 7:30pm; the simulcast will begin at 8pm.

The school is trying to teach them responsibility and warn off any unwanted pregnancies - but the teens already have too much on their plates. The new arrivals, though only plastic infant simulators, blow up their routines: lies are uncovered, relationships shatter, and friendships blossom. The complicated inner lives of modern teenagers are dissected in a jolly musical romp that’s surprisingly touching underneath all the fun and games.

Queerly Festival will present Calico written by Kai Xing Mun and directed by Michi Zaya. The production will be presented as part of the 2024 Queerly Festival with FRIGID New York at UNDER St. Marks (94 St Marks Pl, New York, NY 10009) on Saturday, June 29 at 7pm. 

What a mess – the characters I mean. Sondheim’s original Tony-winning play examines both the merit and harsh realities of relationships as seen through the perspective of a detached, intimacy avoiding individual. They’re all delightfully dysfunctional, their relationships messy, beautifully mirroring reality.
