The results are pieces that occur right next to you, enveloping you in a warmth you won’t find outside of that snug in your favorite pub.
Guest Blog: Costume and Set Designer Anna Yates on Sustainability and Shag-Pile Carpet in ABIGAIL'S PARTY
by Guest Author - Nov 4, 2024
Unlike what seems like the entire population of the UK, I didn’t know anything about Abigail’s Party when I began working on it with Jack Bradfield in May this year. I was, however, a big fan of Mike Leigh’s films because of his eccentric yet totally believable characters. I love his use of banal and repressed dialogue and there’s such an incredible combination of brutality and compassion in his work.
Review: The Canadian premiere of TITANIQUE is a Comedic and Vocal Masterpiece
by Lauren Gienow - Nov 3, 2024
TITANIQUE, a Segal Centre and David and Hannah Mirvish co-production, officially opened at Montreal’s Segal Centre on Thursday evening, and Broadway World had the opportunity to attend its third and final preview the night before. Full disclosure, this Reviewer has seen the off-Broadway production of TITANIQUE multiple times. I have been a cheerleader for this show from early on, so when it comes to objectivity, I’m about as impartial to TITANIQUE as Ruth is to Cal’s OnlyFans content. After anticipating this Canadian production for months and being eager to see how this Canadian company would make the show their own, I was not disappointed!

Blue Monday was a one-act 'jazz opera' by George Gershwin. The libretto was written by Buddy DeSylva. The story is set in Harlem, inside a 'colored saloon', that is, a bar intended for African-Americans, where we see Joe, a gambler, planning to use his winnings to visit his sick mother, without sharing his plans with his beloved Vi.

Review: IN THE HEIGHTS at Downtown Cabaret Theatre
by Sean Fallon - Nov 2, 2024
On Friday, November 1st, I had the pleasure of seeing a phenomenal opening night performance of IN THE HEIGHTS at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport, CT! Set in Washington Heights in New York City, in a predominantly Latino community, this show delivers the right blend of drama, action, and comedy, enhanced by high quality dancing, singing, and acting, with music and dialogue delivered with the ideal combination of Spanish to create believability, and English so audience members who only speak English can clearly follow the story, while remaining intrigued and entertained. The music, written by Lin Manuel Miranda includes moving slow ballads, intense rap and hip-hop, Salsa, and other mostly Latin influences. Director Ben Tostado combines his talents with choreographer Olivia Rivera and music director Mark Ceppetelli to bring out the best in this first-rate cast!
