2015 Oakland Youth Poet Laureate to Be Announced at 7/11 Beast Crawl

The Youth Poet Laureate is the top literary honor for both the city and its “hometown hero.”  Now in its fourth year, the Oakland Youth Poet Laureate program had a record number 53 applicants, who are between the ages of 13-18 and live or attend school in Oakland.

New Jersey Performing Arts Center is proud to announce the TD James Moody Jazz Festival, headlined by the legendary Tony Bennett, from November 7-15, 2015. With help from NJPAC Jazz Advisor Christian McBride, this festival promises to be one of the largest gatherings for jazz fans on the East Coast, showcasing all-star line-ups with some of the country's best musicians, such as Dianne Reeves, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings and the Sarah Vaughan Vocal Competition. Now in its fourth year, the festival offers nine days of concerts, panel discussions and workshops around Newark, in honor of saxophonist, bebop pioneer, and Newark native James Moody.

Performance Network to Present OTHER DESERT CITIES, 6/11-7/12

Performance Network of Ann Arbor will present O?ther Desert Cities?by Jon Robin Baitz June 11­July 12 completing a long delayed co­production with the Jewish Ensemble Theatre. The production garnered rave reviews and near sell out crowds during its West Bloomfield run and tickets are now on sale for the Network production. Directed by David Wolber and co­sponsored by Detroit sports and entertainment executive, Tom Wilson, O?ther Desert Cities?is the story of a wounded family and the secrets they share. It is the final main stage production in the Network's inaugural season under the new management of John Manfredi and Suzi Regan. The cast remains the same as at the JET and features the talents of Leah Smith, Naz Edwards, Hugh Maguire, Sandra Birch and Bryan Lark. Performances run Thursday­Sunday (Preview is Thursday, June 11; Opening Night is Friday, June 12) and tickets range in price from $25 to $41. Saratoga Springs, NY -- Opera Saratoga, in partnership with the literary organization Words After War, will present a writing workshop to civilians, veterans and military families on July 11 and July 12, 2015 at The New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs, NY. The two-day event will be held in conjunction with the world premiere of The Long Walk, by Composer Jeremy Howard Beck and Librettist Stephanie Fleischmann. The opera is based upon the critically acclaimed memoir of war and homecoming by Brian Castner.
