Utah Opera takes audiences on a heart-stopping journey of forbidden love, loyalty, betrayal and tragedy in the 2015-16 season opening production of Puccini's "Tosca". The performances, held at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theater, are tonight, October 10, October 12, 14, and 16 at 7:30 PM, then October 18 at 2 PM.

After a worldwide search, Houston Grand Opera has chosen seven new members for the 2015–16 HGO Studioprogram. One of the most respected and highly competitive young artist programs in the world, the HGO Studio provides comprehensivecareer development to young singers, pianist/coaches, and conductors who have demonstrated potential to make major contributions to thefield of opera. The HGO Studio received applications from 500 artists; of those, about 275 were heard in Houston, New York, Philadelphia,Cincinnati, and San Francisco. Set in the rolling hills of the Italian countryside, Donizetti's timeless romantic comedy opens tonight, January 24 at the Ordway Music Theater in St. Paul for five performances. In the opera, American soprano Nicole Cabell stars as the beautiful and wealthy Adina, doggedly pursued by the love-struck Nemorino, a handsome but simple peasant sung by Italian American tenor Leonardo Capalbo.

The Knoxville Opera is thrilled to present its fourth school tour this month. Bizet's Carmen is the featured opera and showcases the music of Spain, including famous melodies and a cast full of charisma. Knoxville Opera board members are excited to continue the school tours, due to the previous three years of positive responses from students, teachers and school administrators. The performances are sung in English and feature Spanish costumes, scenery, and props. The school tour runs between now and January 16. This project is a part of Knoxville Opera's annual $150,000 Education/Outreach Program.

Opera San José continues its 31st season with the WORLD PREMIERE of Where Angels Fear to Tread by American composer Mark Lanz Weiser, libretto by Roger Brunyate. This bold new opera, based on the novel by E. M. Forster, unveils a collision of cultures that leads to a misunderstanding of horrific consequences, set in motion when a rich English widow marries a middle-class but handsome young Italian against the wishes of her family. Where Angels Fear to Tread will be sung in English with English supertitles. Six performances are scheduled February 7 through 22 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José.
