Details on Why SPIDER-MAN Was Cancelled on 8/6; Show's Back on 8/7

This morning, Spider-Man on Broadway spokesperson Rick Miramontez tells BroadwayWorld.com that 'Last night's performance of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark was cancelled due to technical difficulties that were discovered during pre-set. The problem has been resolved and performances of Broadway's most technologically ground-breaking show will resume as scheduled beginning with today's matinee. '

Audience reports began to filter in earlier on the BroadwayWorld Message Boards, and to the BWW News Desk about tonight's performance of Spider-Man having been canceled shortly before showtime. The producers have now released word via the official Spider-Man on Broadway Blog with information on refunds and exchanges. Ticket buyers tell us that the official explanation given was computer malfunctions related to the show's many automated special effects. There's no official word yet about the show on Wednesday.

SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, Broadway's high-flying spectacular, is launching a massive coast-to-coast search, to find its next Peter Parker/Spider-Man! The show's original and current star, Reeve Carney, will depart the production on Sunday, September 15, 2013 and two open casting calls, in Los Angeles and New York, are being planned to find his replacement. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take over the lead role in Broadway's most famous show is completely open to the public. Hopefuls should be males in their late teens to early twenties of any ethnicity. They must have a great rock singing voice. They can be nerdy with an understated sex appeal and a good sense of humor.

Disney XD has ordered a third season of its #1 animated series 'Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man,' it was announced this weekend by David Levine, Vice President and General Manager, Disney XD Worldwide, and Jeph Loeb, Executive Vice President and Head of Marvel Television. The series follows the thrilling adventures of Spider-Man and four other teen heroes who join S.H.I.E.L.D.'s exclusive training program to become the ultimate super heroes.

TDF's Autism Theater Initiative (ATI) announces a slate of autism-friendly performances on Broadway for the 2013-14 theatre season. The Initiative, which operates under the auspices of Theatre Development Fund's Accessibility Programs (TAP), will present autism-friendly performances of three blockbuster Broadway musicals. They are: Disney's THE LION KING on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at 1pm at the Minskoff Theatre; SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Darkon Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 2pm at the Foxwoods Theatre; and WICKED on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at 1pm at the Gershwin Theatre.

Sony Orders Two More AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Sequels

Jeff Blake, Sony Pictures's Chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution announced today that the studio has ordered two more installments of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise - and each has received a tentative release date. The third film is set to swing into theaters on June 16, 2016, and the fourth on May 4, 2018.

Broadway's SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark is doing its part to support New York's critically ill and injured children at St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children, the City's only long-term rehabilitation hospital for children and the region's largest provider of home healthcare to children with medically complex conditions. Throughout the month of June, when guests buy Spider-Man tickets through Givenick, a portion of all proceeds will be donated to St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children.

Today in 2011, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark opened at the Foxwoods Theatre, where it is still running. Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is a rock musical with music and lyrics by U2's Bono and The Edge and a book by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The musical is based on the Spider-Man comics created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, published by Marvel Comics, as well as the 2002 film about the character and the Greek myth of Arachne. lt tells the story of the origin of the character, his romance with Mary Jane and his battles with the evil Green Goblin.

Yesterday afternoon, the cast of SPIDER-MAN TURN OFF THE DARK headlined the Brooklyn Public Library's Summer Reading Kickoff event. DAt teh event, Reeve Carney and Rebecca Faulkenberry performed “If The World Should End,' followed by “Rise Above” with Jennifer Sanchez. SPIDER-MAN Brings Back 'Tony Sunday;' All 'Tonys' to Receive Free Ticket, 6/9

After attracting a record number of 'Tonys' last year, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark will, once again, hold a special performance celebrating 'Tony Sunday' at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9. Like last year, anyone named Tony (or any variation thereof, including Anthony, Antoinette, Toni, Antonio, or Antonia) will be eligible to receive a complimentary pair of tickets to the special performance. This year, SPIDER-MAN will also be offering free tickets to any past Tony Award-winners. People named 'Tony' need to bring state-issued photo ID. Tony-winners need to bring their Tony Award.

ATG Expected to Buy Broadway's Foxwoods Theater, Home of SPIDER-MAN, for $70 Million

According to The Telegraph, Broadway's Foxwoods Theater could soon be purchased by the UK-based Ambassador Theater Group, which owns around 40 theaters across the pond. Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark currently runs at the Foxwoods.

This past weekend, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark hosted a special Mother's Day themed Everyday Hero, this time honoring Cathy Fritea, a mother who lost her first-born son. Out of her grief, she started the Angels Fund charity, which helps comfort grieving parents who have lost a child. The master puppeteers, dancers, and musicians of Cambodia's premiere Shadow Puppet Troupe, Wat Bo-in New York City as part of the citywide Season of Cambodia festival-visited Broadway's SPIDER-MAN Turn Off the Darkthis weekend in between performances of their performances of Sor Neakabas (The Magical Arrowhead Dragon) at Brookfield Place, Winter Garden. In honor of the troupe's visit, the Cambodian Flag was waved by the company ofSPIDER-MAN Turn Off the Dark during curtain call, and members of the Shadow Puppet Troupe met with SPIDER-MAN star Reeve Carney backstage for an exclusive meet-and-greet.
