To celebrate the passage of the landmark legislation in New York State allowing same-sex couples to marry, the Broadway community will gather to marry some of their own, on stage at the St. James Theatre on Monday night, July 25th, immediately following the 7:00 PM performance of HAIR.

'That's me up there,' said the gentleman sitting to my right at Tuesday night's performance ofHairwhen I ask him at intermission if he was having a good time. I knew his response would be positive, as I could hear him obviously being moved by the production during the first act. He was a big guy, strong, maybe in his early 60s wearing a Hawaiian shirt, khaki shorts and sporting a crew cut. To look at him you might think he was a retired cop or a Vietnam vet. For all I know, maybe he was. But in row K of the St. James Theatre there was a rush of memories passing through him of his youthful days as a hippie.

Tickets (1 per person) will be distributed at 1:00 PM on July 5. Fans waiting in line are encouraged to dress in their best HAIR inspired hippie attire; just before tickets are distributed at 1:00 PM, cast members will select the best dressed male and female winners, who will win a walk-on role in a future performance of HAIR, along with five tickets so that their family and friends can watch them join the tribe. Tickets may be anywhere in the theatre and are non-transferrable. HAIR will officially open at the St. James Theatre on Wednesday, July 13th and play through September 10, 2011.
