Former NY Giant Carl Banks To Sign Autographs At LOMBARDI 2/1

Former New York Giants linebacker Carl Banks will be signing autographs in the lower lobby of the Circle in the Square Theatre on Tuesday, February 1 from 6:30-7:00pm. The 1986 Vince Lombardi trophy that Banks and the rest of the 'Big Blue Wrecking Crew' helped to bring home to New York for their victory in Super Bowl XXI will also be on display from February 1 through Super Bowl Sunday on February 6, 2011. The lower lobby of the Circle in the Square Theatre is accessible to ticket-holders only.

Yesterday, January 19, the cast of Lombardi celebrated 100 performances on Broadway. Producers Tony Ponturo and Fran Kirmser joined cast members Dan Lauria, Judith Light, Keith Nobbs, Bill Dawes, Robert Christopher Riley, and Chris Sullivan to share a commemorative cake with the audience at curtain call. While football and baseball have been slugging it out for decades for the title of America's Most Popular Sport, there's no doubt that the latter is Broadway's baby, boasting Tony-winners Damn Yankees and Take Me Out. Aside from inspiring amusing songs for Wonderful Town and High Button Shoes, football's longest Broadway run was the short-lived musical All-American, which featured the unlikely combination of Ray Bolger acting in scenes written by Mel Brooks. Heck, even basketball (That Championship Season) and rugby (The Changing Room) have fared better on Broadway than football.
