Zion is a gripping portrait of Zion Clark, a young wrestler born without legs who grew up in foster care. Clark began wrestling in second grade against his able-bodied peers. The physical challenge became a therapeutic outlet and gave him a sense of family. Moving from foster home to foster home, wrestling became the only constant thing in his childhood. The Netflix original documentary short is directed by Floyd Russ.

Editor-turned award-winning short film director, Jonathan Eagan (Workin' Moms, Letterkenny, What Would Sal Do), and Tania Thompson (The Lockpicker, Love Bent, Bitches Love Brunch) are pleased to announce that their short film, Rake, starring an ensemble cast which includes newcomers Sam Davey, Andrew Cox, Devon Hauth (Mimicry), and Madi Violet Graves (Meet Ronald, Famous Feuds), has completed post-production and is ready to start the festival circuit. Rake, a drama told over one summer night in Toronto, is the second short film from Eagan, who also wrote the screenplay, and is made under his banner, 463 Films, in partnership with Thompson's company, Refinery. Eagan and Thompson serve as producers.

Valerie McCaffrey's DIRTY BOMB, one of the great but largely untold stories from WWII, is in competition for Best Short Film at the Madrid International Film Festival.  Ido Samuel, the film's star, is up for Best Actor in a Short Film. The film will screen on Thursday, July 26th, at 7:15PM, at the Novotel Madrid Center, Screening Room 1.

This week, Jean-Michel Blais' acclaimed album, Dans ma main, was short-listed for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize. One of 10 finalists selected by a jury of Canadian music journalists, the winner will be announced at the gala on September 17. “So proud Dans ma main made the Polaris Music Prize short-list,” says Blais. “Congrats and thanks to my team, fans, and of course the people who voted for it.”

Sharjah Art Foundation announced today the recipients of the first Short Film Production Grant, a part of Sharjah Film Platform (SFP). Emerging filmmakers Faisal Attrache, Mohammed Al Hammadi and Abdulrahman Al Madani will be awarded a total of USD 30,000 to support the production of new work. The foundation also announced today an open call for film submissions that would be screened alongside the premieres of the Short Film Production Grant recipients' new works at the annual Sharjah Film Platform in December 2018.

Van Horn steps in for Eric Owens who, regrettably, has withdrawn due to health issues. Moldovan bass Oleg Tsibulko will sing the part of the Emperor in The Nightingale and Other Short Fables, while Canadian bass Michael Uloth now performs the role of The Bonze.
