San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival to Hold Auditions for the Public, 11/7

San Francisco, CA, September 17, 2015 – Bay Area audiences will have a rare opportunity to experience dance from 40 world dance and music traditions as more than 1200 dancers in more than 100 dance companies audition for a coveted spot in the 2016 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, scheduled for the first three weekends in June 2016, at the historic Palace of Fine Arts Theatre in San Francisco.  The auditions will be held over two weekends— Saturday, November 7, 11 am to 7 pm; Sunday, November 8, Noon to 8 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, November 14 and 15, Noon to 8 pm at the Palace of Fine Arts. Each company will perform for 5–10 minutes and will be adjudicated by a panel of dance experts, along with Festival Artistic Directors Carlos Carvajal and CK Ladzekpo.

PICNIC, the 1953 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by William Inge about sexual repression, longing and disillusionment, and the narrow-minded limitations of life in a small Midwestern town, launches Palm Beach Dramaworks' 2015-2016 season on Friday, October 9 (8pm) at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre.

Stable Cable Lab Co. to Stage Max Baker's BECAUSE ME at The Wild Project, 10/29-11/7

Stable Cable Lab Co. will present Max Baker's un-romantic comedy, Because Me. The production will play a limited engagement at the Wild Project (195 East 3rd Street between Avenues A and B) October 28-November 7. Performances will be October 29, 30, & 31, November 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 at 7:30pm, Saturday, October 31 & November 7 at 2pm, and Monday, November 2 at 1pm. Happy Birthday Yul Brynner! His best-known role remains that of King Mongkut of Siam in the Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical The King and I which he played 4,525 times on stage over the span of his career. He appeared in the original production and later touring productions as well as a 1977 Broadway revival, London Production in 1979 and another Broadway revival in 1985. He also appeared in the film version for which he won an Academy Award as Best Actor and in a short-lived TV version (Anna and the King) on CBS in 1972. Brynner is one of only nine people who have won both a Tony Award and an Academy Award for the same role.
