Idle Muse Theatre Company proudly announces its first play of 2019, Best for Winter, being a short Shakespeare adapted from The Winter's Tale and other works, adapted and directed by Evan Jackson, March 21 - April 20, at The Edge Theater Off-Broadway, a new space at 1133 W. Catalpa Ave.

British musician and songwriter Jerry Williams returns today with the video for her latest single, 'David At The Bar,' which premiered over on Earmilk. Directed by James Robert Sharp and filmed on location at The Marmion in Portsmouth, UK, the very pub where Jerry first met the titular David, the accompanying video beautifully supplements Jerry's warm, true to life story telling.

WGN America, Sony Pictures Television's networks, and Canada's CTV announced today the renewal of the comedic procedural series Carter for a second season, starring Jerry O'Connell (Billions), Sydney Poitier Heartsong (Chicago P.D.) and Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black). Andy Berman(Psych, Rosewood) joins Carter as Showrunner and Executive Producer for its sophomore season, which will return to North Bay, Ontario to commence production this spring. Series creator Garry Campbell (Kids in The Hall, MADtv) returns as an executive producer and writer on the series.

NBCUniversal Television Distribution has sold “Judge Jerry” to more than 90% of the country for its fall 2019 debut, it was announced today by Tracie Wilson, Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs, NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution. 

Chicago Shakespeare Theater announces the cast and creative team for Short Shakespeare! Macbeth, a 75-minute abridged production of William Shakespeare's tale of political intrigue and personal ambition. Adapted and directed by Marti Lyons and featuring a dynamic ensemble cast, the production will be performed for the public on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m., February 16-March 16, 2019. After each performance, the actors remain on stage for a question-and-answer session, before joining the audience in the Lobby for one-on-one conversations and photo opportunities.

Red Bull Theater today announced that their ninth annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes will feature two brand new commissions from Kia Corthron and Will Power, alongside six brand new plays chosen from hundreds of submissions from playwrights across the country. Submissions are now open through March 18, 2019.

In 2007, Kathryn Taylor Smith created a very well-received "homeless angel" character for a stage production. That led to her first short film featuring the same character, which would earn Smith acting awards in film festivals around the country. Playing On Air announced today the three winners of the inaugural James Stevenson Prize for comedic short plays. First Prize ($7,500, plus a Playing On Air recording for radio and podcast distribution) has been awarded to Hate Baby by Gracie Gardner. (Gardner is also the winner of the 2017 Relentless Award and author of the New York Times Critic's Pick Athena.) Second Prize ($2,000) has been awarded to Hedgehog Years by Lily Akerman. In the ensuing months, the two priests forge a bond across the Atlantic through a series of letters sharing experiences of trauma and recovery. Father Basil recalls his own town's efforts to launch the “Snowdrop” campaign that brought about radical gun policy reform in the UK, whereas the US has had no federal reform to date. There have been over 1600 mass shootings since December 2012 in the US.  In the aftermath of the tragedy, Father Basil journeys across the Atlantic to bring solace to Father Bob and the community of Newtown.

Seemingly trapped and alone, stalked and tormented by a malevolent force, he's left questioning his sanity and what it means to be him in this continually changing world.
