The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance continues its 2015-16 season on December 4th at the Hilberry Theatre with Inspecting Carol. Step right in to the holiday season with all its merriment, festivities, stress and joy. At the theatre, there's no better story to set the tone for this part of the year than the well-loved Christmas Carol. Charles Dickens' words come alive onstage for generations of thespians and patrons year after year.

For more than two decades, Lettuce has brought a new vitality to classic funk, matching their smooth and soulful grooves with a hip-hop-inspired urgency and mastery of beat.

Now on stage at the Hilberry Theatre at Wayne State University is The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance production of THE GREAT GATSBY.  This moving drama tells the story of greed, betrayal and inequality in the fictional town of West Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922.  The young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby (played marvelously by Santino Craven) has a  quixotic passion and obsession for the beautiful former debutante Daisy Buchanan (played beautifully by Devri Chism).  The drama brings the classic 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald to life.

The American Writers Museum (AWM) announced during a press conference on October 27 at the Chicago Cultural Center that it has leased a prime space at 180 North Michigan Avenue, one of Chicago's busiest blocks, for its early 2017 opening. The location's proximity to hotels, residential buildings, universities, cultural attractions, Millennium Park, and public transportation provides a vibrant home for the first and only museum to engage the public in celebrating American writers and their influence on our history, our identity, our culture, and our daily lives. The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance continues its 2015-16 season tonight, October 30 at the Hilberry Theatre with the opening of THE GREAT GATSBY. Wayne State University is delighted to present the only authorized stage interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel, adapted by Simon Levy, featuring the memorable characters of the story interacting in its famous Gilded Age setting.

Darkly sensual and broodingly sexy, Paul Vasterling's balletic interpretation of Bram Stoker's legendary anti-hero Dracula (first presented in 1999 and revived in 2007) remains as potent and as stirring as ever, richly conceived and beautifully performed by the dancers of Nashville Ballet, who offer  audiences a spine-tingling seasonal adventure.

Winners of the competition will have their plays presented at The Heck-Rabi Festival which is a unique opportunity for emerging playwrights to see their work produced.

This month, ?Joe's Pub at The Public presents showcases from a range of artists including writer Dan Hoyle to orchestral indie band Mother Falcon to downtown darling Erin Markey to a slew of French jazz musicians, as part of the Paris Jazz Club's French Quarter Festival, coinciding with APAP|NYC, the annual Association of Performing Artists Presenters conference. The performances will occur nightly from tonight, January 8 through Tuesday, January 13.

Alice fell down the rabbit hole and into the hearts of Kansas City on Friday October 10 at the opening and Kansas City premiere of Alice (in Wonderland) produced by the Kansas City Ballet Company. Opening the 57th season for the Kansas City Ballet the full-length ballet is a delightful interpretation of Lewis Carroll's, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and characters from Alice Through the Looking Glass.
