The South Austin Moonlighters Release New Album, 'Travel Light'
by Kaitlin Milligan - May 17, 2019

Today, roots-rock renegades The South Austin Moonlighters release their new full-length album, Travel Light. Available everywhere on Station House Records, Travel Light marks a new era for the Moonlighters. In addition to bringing in the New Orleans songwriter Anders Osborne to produce the record, The South Austin Moonlighters manage to connect with each other like never before, unpacking sometimes-heavy subject matter in grin-inducing multi-part harmony; and when Lonnie Trevino (bass), Chris Beall (guitar), Phil Hurley (guitar), and Daniel James (drums) share vocal duties, it's one hell of a blend. The Boot premiered the album's first single, 'Girl From Texas,' hailing SAM as 'one of the best live bands in their home city of Austin.' Most recently, American Songwriter premiered the final single off the record, calling 'Born Lucky' 'a sonically brooding tale of grit, determination and integrity.' Purchase the new record here.

BWW Feature: MICHAEL KAHN & FRIENDS, Off The Record At The Shakespeare Theatre Of Washington
by Mary Lincer - May 21, 2019

The fun of an evening such as this week's 'Michael Kahn & Friends, Off the Record: The Lansburgh Years, 1992-2007' derives from the relaxed, unscripted content provided by those who usually offer scripts to an audience. The three actors and one former administrative colleague who joined Kahn at the Harman Wednesday to visit memory lane required little prompting by moderator Tom Story to recall and reminisce about their work with the Shakespeare Theatre Company during the Lansburgh Years. Once Story asked each to remember his/her first meeting with Michael Kahn, a series of photos of past productions drove the evening of anecdotes.

Peggy Gou To Curate Next DJ-Kicks Installment
by Tori Hartshorn - May 2, 2019

When Peggy Gou released her debut EP 'Art of War' in 2016, she made a list of career goals. One of them was to become the first South Korean DJ to play Berlin's techno institution Berghain, an objective she achieved only a few months later. Another item on that list was to record an instalment of !K7's DJ-Kicks series. “It's the premier class of DJ mixes,” she says. “Some of my favourite selectors have contributed to it.” Now Peggy Gou can tick that off her list too as she proudly presents the 69th edition of the mix series.

Well, next up in decluttering my apartment is clearing out the big, tall stack of different Guys and Dolls CDs I've spent a few decades collecting. BWW Review: 74 SECONDS... TO JUDGEMENT at Arden Theatre Co.
by Alyssa Biederman - Jan 26, 2019

When you hear about trials, you get the facts presented in the trial: jury selection, witness testimony, opening and closing arguments, and the verdict. What you never see, however, is what goes on when the jury is let off the record to decide the case. You can never really be sure what led those jurors to come to the verdict they did.

BWW Review: CHRISTOPHER JACKSON Exudes Swagger at an Intimate Kennedy Center Concert
by Sam Abney - Sep 30, 2018

On Saturday night, Washington, D.C. had a visit from one of the most popular American presidents and, while thoughts of a certain musical about a founding father hung over the evening, George Washington delivered a charming concert in the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater. To clarify, Mr. Washington himself was unavailable for the evening since he's been dead for two centuries. Christopher Jackson, however, who received a Tony nomination for his portrayal of our first president, served as a great alternative.
