RENT is coming back to Detroit! The Detroit engagement is part of the 20th Anniversary Tour and will be here from January 8th -20th at the Fisher Theatre. In 1996, an original rock musical by a little-known composer opened on Broadway and forever changed the landscape of American theatre. Two decades later, Jonathan Larson's RENT continues to speak loudly and defiantly to audiences across generations and all over the world. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony-Award winning masterpiece returns to the stage in a vibrant 20th anniversary touring production. A reimagining of Puccini's La Boheme, RENT follows an unforgettable year in the lives of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams without selling out. BroadwayWorld Detroit had a chance to speak with Logan Marks, who plays the role of Mark in the 20thAnniversary Tour of RENT, about the show, his iconic role, and why RENT is still going strong 20 years later. On Thursday, December 7th, for one night only, the Duke University Theater Studies department presents a developmental workshop of the groundbreaking Kurt Weill-Alan Jay Lerner musical Love Life directed by New York-based director and Tony Award winning actress, Victoria Clark ( The Light in the Piazza).  

The original cast CD of LOVE, LINDA starring acclaimed jazz vocalist Stevie Holland, has just been released by 150 Music in anticipation of Holland's upcoming limited engagement return at the Triad Theater. The CD features several newly recorded selections from the show as well as previously un-recorded songs.

The one-woman tour de force, directed by Tony-Award-winning director Richard Maltby, Jr. and starring acclaimed jazz vocalist Stevie Holland, enjoyed a highly successful Off-Broadway run 2013-2014 and now comes to the Schoolhouse Theater for a very special limited engagement todays and Saturdays October 5,6,12 and 13 at 8pm and on Sundays October 7 and 14 at 3PM. The Schoolhouse Theater presentation of LOVE LINDA is the last chance to see this production in Westchester prior to the show's return to New York City.

Starting next month, Book-It Repertory Theatre is hosting Literature to Life/Young Audiences of New York to present a stage adaptation of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. This 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel written by Junot Diaz was adapted and directed for the stage byElise Thoron and will be performed by Elvis Nolasco ("American Crime", "She's Gotta Have It"). This collaboration across the coasts is the first time Book-It has hosted another company in its 28-year history.

Kitchen Theatre Company continues its 2017-2018 Season with the regional premiere of Bright Half Life  by Tanya Barfield, a love story that follows Erica and Vicky over the course of a nearly five decades long relationship. Performances of Bright Half Life  begin at the Kitchen Theatre Company in The Percy Browning Performance Space on March 4 and run through March 18.

Cody Williams with Alysha Umphress. Stephen DeAngelis exclusively for Queens Theatre, will be presented for a limited two-performance run on February 17 at 8 pm and February 18 at 3 pm. Audiences will be treated to a romantic night with a musical score from across the spectrum of Broadway, pop, the American Songbook, and country music. Both performances will include personal stories from the cast and a lively question and answer session with the audience.  

Overall, Waitress is a charming and confusing confection. All of the ingredients seem to be there. They aren't quite measured correctly, but who cares? It still tastes great!
