– Evictions are rough, man. The paperwork’s killing me! A tenant’s right’s association built on shaky alliances comes to loggerheads in the face of a gentrifying block in this hilarious world premiere by acclaimed playwright, Richard Dresser.
Known for his successful plays, Rounding Third and Johnny Baseball, Richard Dresser is no stranger to KCPT. 2018 marked his third time participating in the annual new works festival, PlayFest. This year, Wolf at the Door, received a final tune up before it rolled into rehearsals.
Wolf at the Door utilized double roles for each actor with the exception of Chuck Filipov, who returns after working in PlayFest 21 and 22 to play Keith. Aba Kiser, last seen in last year’s smash hit, Murder Ballad, plays both Tina and April. Jade Evans makes her KCPT debut playing Mandy and Quaneshna. KCPT mainstay Michelle Hensel is Gertrude and Vanessa. KCPT Artistic Apprentice Brendan Chambers is Jason and Phil, and Dillon Porter, KCPT’s soon to be lead in August’s production of Hamlet, is Sean and Garth.
There’s a new landlord who’s promising to make the building better, safer, and more modern. But what about the people in rent controlled apartments who have started to disappear, and isn’t building security just a little over the top? Tina thinks it’s time to form a Tenants Association and fight back before it’s too late. Will they hang together or hang separately?
