Suspense! Romance! Intrigue! Herring!
Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit comedy for anyone who loves the magic of theatre!
The 39 Steps follows the story of Richard Hannay, an ordinary man bored with the drudgery of life, until he is unwittingly drawn into a web of espionage and murder. As he tries to clear his name, Hannay embarks on a whirlwind adventure across England and Scotland, encountering a host of quirky characters, police chases, trains, a plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and even a little good old-fashioned romance. The play won critical acclaim worldwide, including the Olivier Award for Best New Play. This masterful production, directed by Chris Shea, showcases the inventiveness and creativity of live theater, with minimal props and sets, leaving audiences to wonder “how do they do that?”
