The Lakewood Playhouse is proud to present the FIFTH SHOW of our 74th SEASON of PLAYS — N. Richard Nash’s beautiful Romantic Drama “THE RAINMAKER.”
Our Ticket Prices are $24.00 (General Admission), $21.00 (Senior/Military) and $18.00 (Students/Educators).
We will be using the theatre in a configuration for THE RAINMAKER that has not been utilized in over a decade and this production promises to, indeed, bring rain to the inside of the Lakewood Playhouse!
Featuring actors both new, and returning, to the Lakewood Playhouse, this beautifully touching story will hold your hearts, raise your spirits and gently remind you not to give up on your dreams. THE RAINMAKER will feature the acting talents of: ELLIOT WEINER as H.C. (My Name is Asher Lev), MASON QUINN (Twelfth Night), JACOB TICE (Twelfth Night and Last Season’s Play It Again, Sam and The Farnsworth Invention), ERNIE HELLER (Last Season’s The Farnsworth Invention), JED SLAUGHTER (Last Season’s The Farnsworth Invention and A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum), BRUCE STORY (Sweeney Todd) and introducing TANYA BARBER as Lizzie.
This show will feature the return of Director CASI WILKERSON (Last Season’s Oliver!).
Presented with views from two sides, in the Lakewood Playhouse’s unique "intimate” seating, this production of “THE RAINMAKER" will help you feel like as if you are "inside" the show.
ABOUT THE SHOW: Set in a drought-ridden rural town in the West in Depression era America, the play tells the story of a pivotal hot summer day in the life of spinsterish Lizzie Curry. Lizzie keeps house for her father and two brothers on the family cattle ranch. She has just returned from a trip to visit pseudo-cousins (all male), which was undertaken with the failed expectation that she would find a husband. As their farm languishes under the devastating drought, Lizzie's family worries about her marriage prospects more than about their dying cattle. A charming confidence trickster named Starbuck arrives and promises to bring rain in exchange for $100. His arrival sets off a series of events which enable Lizzie to see herself in a new light.
Parental Advisory: This production contains some fisticuffs and mature language.
