A manic lullabye inspired by the childhood and short stories of Edgar Allan PoeEleven-year-old Edgar Allan has only one goal:to be the most remarkable boy at Manor House School. He has only one obstacle: Edgar Allan.Edgar Allan is a two-person musical created and performed by Katie Hartman (The Unrepentant Necrophile, The Legend of White Woman Creek) and Nick Ryan (co-creator of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at Minnesota Children's Theatre Company.) It follows eleven year-old Edgar Allan in his first year at English boarding school, as he seeks to gain academic ascendancy over the student body. All goes to plan until another boy named Edgar Allan arrives in class which complicates his schemes of dominance. Edgar Allan is a dark, comedic riff on the obsessions, the mania, and the insanity that haunted the life and work of America's first professional writer. Edgar Allan premiered at the 2013 Twin Cities Horror Festival in Minneapolis and has since toured with over one hundred performances across the United States and Canada. It is a six-time Best of the Fest winner and has been seen Off-Broadway in the fall of 2017 at the Soho Playhouse.reator/Performers: Katie Hartman & Nick RyanCreated in collaboration with Mark BenzelWith torch-bright writing and enviable skill at inhabiting alluring gothic miscreants, this play is my 2015 high-water mark so far -- a rolling and demon-haunted dissection of childhood friendship and inevitable jealousy. Best of all, its damn funny when it wants to be - Edmonton JournalDarkly funny and dangerous Katie Hartman exudes malice even as she beautifully sings her intent - Global News"The perfect Fringe play. " - National PostIf Edward Gorey were to write a childrens ukulele musical, it would look like this. Hilarious and horrifying in equal measure, Hartman and Ryans lovely play about the childhood of the iconic writer and his new best frenemy at school is a jewel box of a play. - Letoile Magazine"I suspect that Poe would have approved of this play and the considerable skill of these two artists. Its really a unique experience, not to be missed." - Cincinnati City BeatKatie Hartman & Nick RyanCo-Artistic Directors of The Coldhartswww.thecoldharts.com
