Christian and Jewish Congregations Collaborate in Seattle with a Staged Reading of the new musical A TIME TO LIVE inspired by the Book of Ruth - June 4th and 5th 2022. Hope conquers grief and love defeats prejudice within intercultural relationships in this retelling of the beloved, ancient story. Have you ever known someone where tragedy after tragedy strikes, yet they keep going on? In the new musical A TIME TO LIVE, Ruth overcomes her beloved's death and moves with her mother-in-law Naomi to a new country only to have prejudice and poverty become constant companions. Guided by Naomi, Ruth shows courage and faith in pursuing a possible solution with the shy relative Boaz. Will this plan work in time to thwart the scheme of a greedy relation who plots to sell Ruth into slavery when she gets in the way of his own aims?
With Book by Kathleen Lyndon and Music & Lyrics by Brenda Giordano, A TIME TO LIVE has presented at three workshops with Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) in New York, receiving strong praise including panelist and Tony winner Mark Hollmann who called the song "Wherever You Go", "...one of the most graceful marriages of music and lyrics..." The music is PRINCE OF EGYPT meets FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Produced in a family friendly community theater five years ago with six performances and 900 in attendance, A TIME TO LIVE has undergone a major rewrite with the help of dramaturg, director, and Off-Broadway producer, Cate Cammarata of CreateTheater.
Admission to the staged reading A TIME TO LIVE is free, but donations are encouraged. The reading includes a full cast and musical score and runs for approximately two hours. The Saturday, June 4, 2022, reading is at 7:00 PM Pacific Time at show sponsor Newport Covenant Church, 12800 Coal Creek Parkway, Bellevue, WA 98006.
