Fresh off the 2nd National Tour of Wicked as Elphaba, powerhouse vocalist Vicki Noon returns to Village Theatre in the title role of the winter production of Annie Get Your Gun under the direction of artistic director, Steve Tomkins. Noon is joined by a cast of local favorites including Dane Stokinger (Village Theatre: Stunt Girl; The Full Monty) as Frank Butler and Hugh Hastings (Village Theatre: Stunt Girl; Little Women) as Buffalo Bill.
Prior to Wicked, Noon played Sophie in the North American tour of Mamma Mia!. She was last seen on the Village Theatre Mainstage in the critically acclaimed 2006 production of CATS, and before that in the 2005 new country musical Play It By Heart. Most recently, Village Theatre Village Originals members saw Noon in the new musical reading of Lizzie Borden at the 11th Annual Festival of New Musicals in Issaquah. A KIDSTAGE kid in her youth, and called ‘a rising star' by The Seattle Times in 1998, Noon's return to Village Theatre is an exciting and highly anticipated treat.
"It's my opinion that throughout the years the women that have played the role of Annie have really exemplified the voices of their eras. Ethel Merman in the 1940's, Rebecca McEntire in the 2000s, and I think Vicki Noon is the voice of today," Tomkins commented. "I worked with Vicki during Village Theatre's production of CATS several years ago-I knew right away that Vicki had to be our Annie. She is going to be fantastic."
Of Noon's portrayal of Elphaba in 2010, the Journal Sentinel wrote, "Vicki Noon has the big mezzo-soprano voice that Elphaba needs, and on Thursday night, she filled the Marcus Center and brought down the house with her signature numbers: ‘The Wizard and I' and ‘Defying Gravity.' But Noon also knows how to dial it down, both vocally and as a character, resulting in a softer and ultimately sadder Elphaba. No matter how high Noon's Elphaba flies, she doesn't let us forget what she has left behind - or what she has lost." Also in 2010, Examiner.com of Indianapolis commented, "Singing the show's most well known tune, ‘Defying Gravity' while suspended high above the stage, Noon thrilled the audience with her considerable vocal abilities and presence."
