On the heels of Anne Lamott's role as moderator for Hillary Clinton's sold-out Seattle appearance in December, and Lindy West's October "Witch Hunt" column in the New York Times, these two inspirational nasty women take the Benaroya Hall stage within days of each other, much to the delight of Seattle audiences.

Anne Lamott, who writes and speaks about subjects that begin with capital letters like Alcoholism, Motherhood and Jesus, visits Benaroya Hall first on Sunday April 8, 2018 at 7:30 pm. She arrives armed with self-effacing humor - she is laugh-out-loud funny - and ruthless honesty. Lamott converts her subjects into enchantment. She doesn't try to sugar-coat the sadness, frustration and disappointment, but tells her stories with honesty, compassion and a pureness of voice. Lamott communicates her faith; she lifts, comforts, and inspires, all the while keeping audiences laughing.

Seven days later on April 15, 2018, Lindy West leads a multi-media talk titled The Witches are Coming from her hometown venue; this promises to be her largest live audience to date and tickets are selling fast. The Seattle-based bestselling author, contributor to This American Life, and New York Times opinion writer discusses the power of personal storytelling and humor in the war for truth.

The Elliott Bay Book Company will sell the author's books at these events, and both Anne and Lindy will autograph books in the lobby following their talk. In addition, Lindy West will attend a private reception before her talk for VIP ticket holders. Northwest Associated Arts (NWAA), KNKX (88.5 FM) and The Stranger present both events. Tickets are available through the Benaroya Hall Box Office, at 206.215.4747 or online at www.benaroyahall.org. Phone interviews are available upon request.

Hailed by Lena Dunham as an "essential (and hilarious) voice for women," Lindy West is ferociously witty and outspoken, tackling topics as varied as pop culture, social justice and body image. She is a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times, and author of Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman, her bestselling memoir. Her essays on feminism, social justice, body image and popular culture have been featured in Jezebel, Cosmopolitan, GQ and The Stranger and on This American Life. From 2014 to 2017 she wrote a weekly political column for The Guardian. She is also the founder of I Believe You | It's Not Your Fault, an advice blog for teenagers, as well as the co-founder of the reproductive rights destigmatization campaign #ShoutYourAbortion. She is a catalyst for a national conversation in a world where not all stories are created equal and not everybody is treated with equal respect. Lindy is hard at work on her follow-up book to Shrill, with a book of cultural critique that examines how we arrived at this moment in history, 'to make some sense of this horrifying quagmire in which we find ourselves,' laying out her grand theory of America: seemingly disparate or even insignificant threads from throughout the past few hundred years gathered into one sprawling, funny, illuminating tapestry. She lives in Seattle.
