Big Head ToddThough his band has racked up seven studio albums and countless miles since he first picked up a guitar as a Colorado teen, Big Head Todd and The Monsters frontman Todd Park Mohr still uses the word "discovery" when he talks about writing songs. More than anything, it's Mohr's excavation of his imagination that continues to drive Big Head Todd and The Monsters -- singer-guitarist Mohr, bassist-singer Rob Squires, drummer-singer Brian Nevin and keyboardist-guitarist-singer Jeremy Lawton. The fact is, BHTM could have begun resting on their laurels back in 1993, when their Top 10 singles "Bittersweet," "Broken Hearted Savior," "Circle" and "It's Alright" pushed the album Sister Sweetly to platinum certification. However, Mohr says, "I've fought throughout our career not to be a one-trick pony, to be the kind of band that has depth and diversity in its catalogue. I'm a fan of this band, and I'm constantly looking forward to what comes next."

In the middle of 2009, mid-way through the biggest American tour of their career, Kele Okereke and his three Bloc Party alumni agreed that it was time to put a temporary full stop on band matters. A sabbatical was required. As of November, they would spend 12 months apart. It was a mutual decision. This was a major deal, over the course of three platinum records, with a transatlantic portfolio that was the envy of their peers and moving towards a sound that was assimilating the long-armed traditions of the four-piece British guitar band into shapes it had previously not imagined itself contorting into, Bloc Party were peaking. By way of an adieu, they signed off with the peculiar measure of releasing One More Chance, a piano house record that skipped boldly onto the centre of the dance-floor. In some ways, this should have been expected. Kele had previously guested on a Chemical Brothers track. Their first album Silent Alarm, a la Janet Jackson's Control, was commercially released in original and remixed formats. On their last full-length record Intimacy, the band had warped influences from bleeding edge American R&B, pounding techno motifs and soundsystem dub-plates into the confines of a festival-friendly UK rock act. 'We had gone pretty far,' muses Kele now. 'But for me, we had not gone far enough.'

On the new Blue October album, Approaching Normal, Justin Furstenfeld, moves his band forward into confident new territory as a songwriter and as a storyteller. Steve Lillywhite, the producer synonymous with U2 and five-time Grammy Award winner guided the way and the result is an album that breaks the mold of whatever anyone may think Blue October is. Lillywhite's first attraction to Blue October was the voice. "For me, it's always the voice that gets me first because my opinion on a voice never changes. There are singers and there are expressionists and Justin is both," says Steve, who quickly adds that just as important is the artistry, "Their music really touches people in a way that the music of great artists do. There is bond of passion and trust between artist and audience."
Comedians of Chelsea LatelyNow famous as the personal assistant of basic-cable TV hostess Chelsea Handler, Chuy Bravo's path to Hollywood stardom was long and arduous-mainly because he has little nugget legs, so it takes him twice as long to get anywhere. Born Jesus Melgoza, Chuy's first exposure to Hollywood was as a young man, when the production of The Three Amigos rolled into his tiny Mexican village, which led to a temporary job arranging nightly hookers for the production crew. Bitten by the Hollywood bug-and a poisonous tarantula, but that's another story-Chuy was determined to make it to Los Angeles and pursue his dream of big-screen stardom. He has now, more appropriately, settled for the small screen.
