Theater Schmeater is pleased to present Heidi Schreck's enigmatic play Creature, opening on Friday May 27th, and running on Thursday Fridays and Saturdays until June 25th. A Seattle native, Ms. Schreck has found success on the East Coast as a playwright, and this early play is the first of her work to be produced in NYC.

It's 1402 and Margery Kemp is a successful and independent woman, an amorous wife, young mother, daughter to the mayor, and successful business owner. Life is going swimmingly, until she is visited by Jesus, and things get a little less clear. Some think she is delusional, some that she is possessed, others find her heretical. In fact, she's not all that sure herself. Ms Schrek's compelling play, based on the historical Margery Kemp, offers an imaginative glimpse into the personal life of a woman suddenly aware of the immensity of existence.

Heidi Schreck is a NYC-based writer and actor, born in Wenatchee, WA and a proud member of Printer's Devil Theater until 2003. Her plays include Grand Concourse (Playwrights Horizons, Steppenwolf Theatre), There Are No More Big Secrets (Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre) and The Consultant (Long Wharf). Awards: Claire Tow Fellowship at Playwrights Horizons, Lilly Awards Stacey Mindich Prize, Susan Smith Blackburn Finalist, Roe Green Award at Cleveland Playhouse, and the Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship. Heidi is an alumna of the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab and Sundance Theatre Lab, and is currently commissioned by MTC, True Love Productions, South Coast Rep and the Atlantic Theatre Company. As an actor, she has performed at Playwrights Horizons, The Public Theatre (Shakespeare in the Park), MTC, Theater of a Two-Headed Calf, The Foundry, Clubbed Thumb, The Women's Project, The Roundabout, Williamstown, Berkeley Rep, Center Theatre Group, and with The Talking Band. She has also worked as a writer and actor on Showtime's NURSE JACKIE and BILLIONS, and as reporter in St. Petersburg Russia. Heidi has received two OBIES, a Drama Desk, and The Theatre World Award.

"An absorbing new play about character and faith....At once lighthearted and serious." Rachel Saltz NY TIMES

"Schreck's script has narrative simplicity, contemporary zing and lyrical flights of startling loveliness." Helen Shaw, Time Out New York
