Theater Schmeater Presents LEMONS, LEMONS, LEMONS, LEMONS, LEMONS Image

The average person will speak 123,205,750 words in a lifetime. But what if there were a limit? Oliver and Bernadette are about to find out. Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons imagines a world where we're forced to say less. It's about what we say and how we say it; about the things we can only hear in the silence; about dead cats, activism, eye contact, and lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons.

Theater Schmeater's production will be the Northwest Premiere of Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons, and is directed by Andrew Shanks and Jordan-Michael Whidbey. Shanks notes that the play definitely feels of the moment. You see the scope of a relationship as it deals with this huge political sea change. A love story in a time of political turmoil. I think seeing a couple navigate that, the complexities of trying to connect with one another when the government has forced them to say less, makes for tremendous conflict. The talented two-person cast is ready to bring this complex relationship to life, and features Sharif Ali (The Twilight Zone Live! at Theatre Schmeater) as Oliver and MaryKate Moran (The Devil and Sarah Blackwater at Annex Theatre) as Bernadette.

The play, written by Sam Steiner, originally premiered at Warwick Arts Centre in 2015 and won three Judges' Awards at the National Student Drama Festival, before appearing at Latitude Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and Camden People's Theatre, London. Steiner, The Guardian said, takes the can opener to a typical opposites-attract romcom in order to explore wider issues of democracy and free speech. Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons is the first show in The Nomad Season, Theater Schmeater's first season ever without their own physical space. The show will be presented at Seattle Public Theater in Green Lake (7312 West Green Lake Dr N), April 20 May 4, 2019. Click here for more information.
