The Lakewood Playhouse Hosts 50th Birthday Party & Celebrity Roast of John Munn Tonight

The Lakewood Playhouse is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the very building it performs its shows in with a 50th BIRTHDAY PARTY / FUNDRAISER and a CELEBRTIY ROAST of Managing Artistic Director JOHN MUNN tonight, May 14th, 2016 starting at 7:00pm.

Join Lakewood for a very special night as they celebrate the 50th Year of the Lakewood Playhouse alongside stars from the theater's historical run of over 300 plays and musicals.

It's a huge evening of fun, prizes, history, memories and laughter, as Lakewood looks fondly upon the last 50 years of shows and prepare for the next 50. This party is a once-in-a-lifetime gathering with cake, wine, punch, door prizes, a silent auction and much, much more.

Plus, a celebrity roast of Managing Artistic Director JOHN MUNN, hosted by CHRISTIAN DOYLE, upon the occasion of John's 50th birthday, as well as his fifth year as Managing Artistic Director of the Lakewood Playhouse.

The evening will also feature the return of the Lakewood Playhouse's very first Managing Artistic Director, JOHN OLIVE, who is flying in from the Midwest.

With special appearances by: Judy Cullen, Jeffery Swiney-Weaver, Tom Birkeland, Sharry O'Hare, Rachael Dill Boyer, John W. Olive, Jon Douglas Rake, Micheal O'Hara, Kyle Sinclair, Gary Chambers, J Howard Boyd, Martin Larson, Alan Wilkie, Steve Dunkelberger, Dean Scharer, Gini Sommer and Jim Endicott & Renae Endicott. Special Recorded Messages From: James FulkersonKent Phillips, Nicole Fazio, Christian Carvajal and James A. Gilletti. Plus Staff from the Lakewood Playhouse (Past and Present): Deborah Lynn Armstrong, Karen Christensen, Nena Curley, Larry Hagerman, Wendy Huber, Jefri Peters, Jeremy Thompson and James Venturini.

All proceeds from ticket sales will go to benefit the Lakewood Playhouse annual "FRIENDS FUND" and help the theater eliminate the remaining balance of its heating and air conditioning system loan.

Ticket prices: $25.00 (and includes cake and punch), $50.00 (and includes cake, punch and a glass of wine for adults); $75.00 (and includes cake, punch and a glass of wine for adults); and a limited number of VIP TABLES, which seat six each and include a souvenir etched glass, cake and two bottles of wine).

Built in 1965 by the Lakewood Community Players and the Lakewood Arts Foundation, the Lakewood Playhouse Theatre was established for the sole purpose of presenting theatrical productions. Since opening its doors 50 years ago, the theatre has presented over 300 productions on both its Main Stage and through its Lakewood Institute of Theatre Education Program (which was established in 2002). From THE TAMING OF THE SHREW to AVENUE Q, the theatre has been the home to the best that theatre history has to offer.

During its 50-year history, the Lakewood Playhouse Theatre has hosted special presentations by hundreds of local groups including: The Lakewood Senior Players, the Pierce College Theatre Group, Last Ditch Efforts, New Muses Theatre, The Outfit Theatre Group, the Asian Film Festival and countless number of music groups.

JOHN MUNN has been a part of the Lakewood Playhouse since he was 16 years old. In his 34-year history with the playhouse, John has acted in, or directed, more than 30 plays & musicals, served on the Board of Directors for two terms and served as the theater's Managing Artistic Director for the past five seasons. He turned 50 in October of 2015.

The Lakewood Playhouse was founded in 1938 and has established itself with theatre that is both intimate and epic. The theatre is located within the Lakewood Towne Center, 5729 Lakewood Towne Center Blvd., Lakewood, Washington 98499.
