With the development of new musicals at the core of its mission, The 5th Avenue Theatre is thrilled to extend its New Works Program by announcing the participants in its inaugural 5th Avenue Writer's Group. Three teams of the Pacific Northwest's most promising musical theater book writers and composers have been selected to participate in the Writers Group. With the support and guidance of Director of New Works Ian Eisendrath and the New Works Program, the Group will nurture, challenge, and motivate the teams through a two-year development program. The participants in the inaugural 2013/14 Writer's Group include Rich Gray, Laura GoldmanMarshall, Harold Taw, Stephanie Timm, Chris Jeffries, and Ian Williams.
About The 5th Avenue Writers Group
The 5th Avenue Writers Group is a two-year program providing three book writers and three composers the opportunity to develop new musicals shepherded by the 5th's growing New Works Program. The writers will attend monthly meetings to discuss their works-in-progress, with each team regularly sharing new work. Participants will receive staff-level access to 5th Avenue projects, space, and equipment, and will showcase their work at the end of each year. The 5th Avenue New Works Program will produce a reading of a one-act musical written by each team at the end of the first year. At the end of the second year, the 5th Avenue New Works Program will deepen produce a reading of a full-length musical written by each team.
