The 5th Avenue Theatre Announces 2011-12 Season Auditions

In March and April, The 5th Avenue Theatre will be holding general auditions for singers, actors, and dancers to fill both principal and ensemble roles in its 2011-12 season productions. An unprecedented six of the seven shows in the 2011-12 season will be produced by The 5th Avenue Theatre. Those productions are Saving Aimee, Cinderella, First Date, Oklahoma!, Damn Yankees, and Rent.

And on Tuesday, March 8, auditioners can get insider's tips and practical advice about auditioning for musical theatre The 5th Avenue's own Artistic Director and Executive Producer David Armstrong.

Workshop: How to Audition for Musical Theatre
With David Armstrong
Tuesday, March 8, 6:30-9:30 PM

To assist performers in the audition process, David Armstrong, Executive Producer and Artistic Director, will lead a musical theatre audition workshop on Tuesday, March 8, 6:30-9:30 PM. This three-hour workshop will focus on the ten things actors especially need to know for effective musical theatre auditions in New York City, Los Angeles, and Seattle. The workshop is designed for all levels of professional performers. To register, call 206-625-1418. To participate, a $15 suggested donation is requested. Proceeds will benefit The 5th Avenue Theatre Educational Programs. Drop-ins are also welcome.


2011-12 General Auditions
For Principal Singers, Actors & Ensemble Singers

Tuesday-Thursday, March 29-31, 12 PM-5 PM
Friday, April 1, 3 PM-8 PM
The 5th Avenue Theatre Rehearsal Studio

Adult performers over the age of 18 with professional musical theatre experience are sought for principal, supporting and ensemble roles in Saving Aimee, Cinderella, First Date, Oklahoma!, Damn Yankees, and Rent.

Auditions are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, please call 206-625-1418 between 11 AM and 4 PM, beginning March 7.

All auditioners must bring:
A resume and a recent 8x10 headshot (headshots and resumes will not be returned).
Sheet music in your correct key for two songs that demonstrate your vocal ability, acting ability and stage presence.
Please prepare one musical theatre pop song and one song from the "Golden Age" of musical theatre.
Selections should be no more than one verse and one chorus in length
All songs should be from the musical theatre canon. Please no opera arias, pop songs, etc.

An accompanist will be provided. Taped accompaniment or singing a cappella will not be permitted.

Please note:
Any actor/singer who appeared on the 5th Avenue Theatre's stage during the 2010-11 season should not attend these auditions.
Auditions for children's roles will be held at a later date still to be determined.


2011-12 Dance Auditions
Sunday, March 27, 7 PM-10 PM
Monday, March 28, 3 PM-6 PM

Dancers who sing, are over the age of 18, and have professional musical theatre dance experience are sought for ensemble roles in Saving Aimee, Cinderella, Oklahoma!, Damn Yankees, and Rent. Auditioners only need to attend one of these dance calls. Please note: All dancers who wish to be considered must attend these auditions, even if you appeared on the 5th Avenue Theatre stage during the 2010-2011 season.

Auditions are by appointment only. To schedule an audition, please call The 5th Avenue Theatre at 206-625-1418 between 11 AM and 4 PM, beginning March 7.

Requirements for dance auditioners:
Advanced backgrounds in jazz and ballet are required.
Come dressed to dance and be prepared to follow combination steps under a choreographer's direction.
Be prepared to sing and bring sheet music in your correct key. An accompanist will be provided. (No separate audition appointment is needed for the singing portion of the audition.)
Please note: Singers who move should NOT attend these auditions.
