Teatro ZinZanni today announced that prolific, award-winning actor Ron Campbell will make a brazen return to the velvet-laden spiegeltent to join the cast of Love, Chaos, and Dinner beginning January 21, 2018. Ron - aka Cecil B. DeGrille - replaces director and performer Joe De Paul - aka Ricky - whose planned departure from this production ends in a final performance on January 20. Tickets are available for purchase at ZinZanni.com/Seattle or by calling the box office at (206) 802-0015.
In a career that has spanned three decades and four continents, Campbell is not only an award-winning, respected actor who has performed everywhere from the streets of Paris to the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Fuji Dome in Japan, the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in Greece, The American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles -- he has also stolen hearts.
In 2015, San Francisco Chronicle theatre critic Robert Hurwitt wrote that Campbell "has been such an established Bay Area presence for five years that we sometimes forget we have to share him with the rest of the world." An award-winning one-man show practitioner (R. Buckminster Fuller, The Thousandth Night, Shylock, The Dybbuk, among others) and certified guffawaholic, Ron is an Associate Artist at California Shakespeare Theatre, Teaching Artist at The Berkeley Repertory Theatre and recipient of the Fox Fellowship for Distinguished Achievement, to name a few of his resume highlights. He last performed with Teatro ZinZanni in the 2015 production of Hollywood Nights.
"It is always exciting to introduce a new performer into an existing production at Teatro ZinZanni - we do this all the time and while it's normal for us, the new energy reverberates through the entire organization in a very positive way," says artistic director, Reenie Duff. "Ron is a ZinZanni veteran who comes to us with a ton of experience as a solo performer as well as a few years of touring with Cirque du Soleil as a lead clown. He is a skilled improviser and a master of numerous characters, which makes him a natural for ZinZanni. It's in this moment that we have an opportunity to mix things up, welcome a new artist, find new bits and silliness, and continue to create a night of entertainment that relies on improv and collaboration from the entire ensemble - and we love doing this work."
With performances all over the world, and including past experience at Seattle's Intiman Theatre and Seattle Repertory Theatre, Campbell counts ZinZanni amongst his proudest professional experiences. "Some of my fondest memories are from those many ZinZanni shows. The center of the spiegeltent may be my favorite place on Earth." And, the love is mutual. "Ron has done stints with us in the past and I have always held a candle for him as an artist," Duff commented. "I really consider him part of the Teatro ZinZanni company and am thrilled that he is able to come back to entertain our audiences."
Teatro ZinZanni Seattle's production of Love, Chaos, and Dinner is directed by Joe De Paul, and features performances from first-time Madame ZinZanni Ariana Savalas, local aerial trapeze favorites Duo Madrona, world-renown magician Maestro Voronin, contortionist-puppet Svetlana, yodeling dominatrix Manuela Horn, hoop aerialist Elena Gatilova, Parisian acrobat Domitil Aillot, comedian Joe De Paul (thru January 20), and Ron Campbell (January 21-April 29, 2018).
