Taproot Theatre Company's Acting Studio is offering six classes for students, adults and seniors that begin in February. Elementary and high school students will build detailed characters and learn to work as an ensemble as they rehearse for a final performance in TTC's Isaac Studio Theatre. Adults will study the fundamentals of acting and make bold character decisions as they learn to play off other actors. Seniors can choose between a class that will dive into scene studies and character work or an improv class geared towards those with Early Stage Memory Loss. These classes are taught by Seattle area theatre professionals Karen Lund, Pam Nolte, Rob Martin, Nikki Visel, Lorrie Fargo and Rick Hornor. Registration forms and class descriptions are available online at taproottheatre.org or by contacting the Acting Studio at 206.529.3668 or studio@taproottheatre.org.

Classes for Adults

Re-ignite the Mind with Improvisation & Play taught by TTC co-founder Pam Nolte and TTC Improv Director Rob Martin. This popular class uses improvisation and theatre games to tap into the creative abilities of individuals experiencing Early Stage Memory Loss (ESML) and their care partners. Improv participants engage fully in the present, making improvisation a perfect theatre class for students with ESML. There is no memory requirement, just the delight of participating in a creative experience that releases the imagination while giving a sense of accomplishment, self-confidence and social enrichment.

Join TTC's Associate Artistic Director Karen Lund in her Professional Audition Master Class. This class is designed specifically to confidently prepare students for the Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) general auditions. Over three class sessions students will receive personalized monologue coaching, headshot and resume review and hear Lund's insight on how to most effectively present yourself as an actor. Prior approval is required to enroll, those who are interested should email a headshot and resume to studio@taproottheatre.org.

The Adult Showcase, taught by professional actor Nikki Visel, is for adults who want to explore acting in a positive and professional environment. The class will work together to create a performance on one of Taproot's stages with play(s) selected based on the students and their interests. Plan to dive into the fundamentals of acting, make bold and detailed character decisions, and become fully immersed in the world of the play as you learn to trust your instincts and play off the other actors. Experience is not required, but a desire to learn and create are!

Take a theatre class for the fun of it with TTC co-founder Pam Nolte in The Creative Class. This is an entry level class that will engage students in scene studies and character work from scripts that are relevant to the interests of the class.

Weekly Classes for Students

Theatre is all about telling a great story in the Theatrical Players Winter Showcase for 4th-6th grade, taught by professional actor Lorrie Fargo. The stronger an ensemble and the more confident the actors, the better the story they can tell. As students work together to perform selections from J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan in just nine weeks they'll be challenged to make bold and detailed character decisions and fully immerse themselves in the world of the play.

The Teen Ensemble Showcase for 7th-12th grade is taught by Dr. Rick Hornor, Acting Studio professional teacher and former chair of the Whitworth University Theatre Department. In this nine-week class students will learn what it takes to build an ensemble, craft a show and put on a showcase performance of selections from Thornton Wilder's Our Town. Experience is not required; students are required to be at all rehearsals and have their lines memorized by the third week of class.
