Taproot Theatre Company has extended the run of the hit Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming through August 22, giving people two more weeks to experience this toe-tappin', knee-slappin', heartwarmin' bluegrass gospel extravaganza. The regional premiere of this musical has been delighting audiences since it opened on July 10.

Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming-written by Connie Ray and conceived by Alan Bailey, with musical arrangements by Mike Craver-is the third installment in the popular Sanders Family series. In this one, the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church is lifting its voice in song again. This time it's 1945. The war is over and the Sanders family has returned to "sing Dennis Sanders in" as the new pastor! All of the favorite characters are back, singin', testifyin' and filling the air with bluegrass, folk and gospel tunes.

The production, directed by Scott Nolte, with musical direction by Edd Key, runs Wednesdays through Saturdays, now through August 22. The cast includes Edd Key, Theresa Holmes, Kevin Brady, David Anthony Lewis, Candace Vance, Brent Ashton and Jenny Cross. The production team includes scenic designer Rick Lorig, sound designer Mark Lund, costume designer Sarah Burch Gordon and lighting designer Richard Schaefer. Debbie Evans serves as stage manager and L. Nicol Cabe as dramaturg.

Support for Taproot Theatre's 2009 season is generously provided by The Charles Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences, ArtsFund, 4Culture, Washington State Arts Commission, PONCHO and Nesholm Family Foundation.
