Super-charged Strictly Seattle performances feature new works by some of Seattle's most celebrated choreographers performed by dancers from around the country. The choreographers create new work in the pressure-cooker of just three weeks --often with stunning results. Pat Graney's "Girl Gods" had its first take at Strictly Seattle before winning two prestigious New York Performance "Bessie" Awards and premiering at On the Boards; and recent Strictly Seattle premieres by Zoe Scofield and Dayna Hanson have also had extensive lives after their Strictly Seattle premieres.
Now in its 19th year, Strictly Seattle is a festival of open experimentation where audiences get to "see local choreographers try new things, often with big future projects in mind" (Michael Upchurch) and see stunning new dancers who just moved to Seattle from all over the country.
A total immersion into the Seattle dance scene, Strictly Seattle is Velocity's world-class summer dance festival, drawing gifted dancers from around the globe. Seattle Dances: "Strictly Seattle is integral to Seattle's dance scene... because it brings more dancers into the community than any other event in the city."
Strictly Seattle performances are commissioned and produced by Velocity Dance Center with funding provided by the National Endowment of the Arts. Special underwriting for Strictly Seattle through Velocity's New Dance Initiative by Glenn Kawasaki.

Location on Capitol Hill (Check Velocity's Website: http://velocitydancecenter.org/festivals/strictly-seattle-2017/#performances)
From Alice Gosti:
"Invisible Womxn aims to bring to the fore stories of local womxn. Washington State's womxn
were the first to vote in the United States. Womxn have shaped our city and state from the very beginning yet little mention is made of these brave womxn who were full partners in the bold venture of Seattle's founders. My aim is also to create a performance event that is a celebration without obscuring our problematic history."
Invisible Women is commissioned and produced by Velocity Dance Center for Strictly Seattle 2017; with funding provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Neighborhood Matching Fund from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.
