STG presents Hope and Action with Senator Kevin Ranker, a presentation on the specific actions we can take to protect our human rights and core values. In a time of feeling powerless and overwhelmed, learn how we can move beyond protests and be the change we want to see. The event, which will take place at The Moore Theatre on April 2 at 1pm, is free and open to the public.
Senator Kevin Ranker was first elected to the Washington State Senate in 2008 and was reelected in 2012 and 2016. He has served in Majority Leadership and as Chair of the Natural Resources Committee and the Environment Committee. Most recently, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as the lead Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee responsible for the $42 billion state operating budget. In 2010 Senator Ranker received a White House appointment as an Advisor to President Obama's National Ocean Council serving as Co-Chair of that body in the final year of the Administration. Senator Ranker represents the beautiful northern Puget Sound including San Juan County and portions of Whatcom and Skagit Counties. He is an avid surfer, fisherman, sailor and runner. He lives with his wife and daughter on Orcas Island while his son proudly serves in the U.S. Army.
