Seattle Theatre Group (STG) will present SHOWTUNES THEATRE COMPANY's THE BROADWAY REVUES at The Moore Theatre on Saturday, May 5th at 8pm and Sunday, May 6th at 2pm.

Recapture the spirit, splash and brazenness of early Broadway with THE BROADWAY REVUES.  The Broadway Revue enjoyed great success on the Great White Way from World War I until the Great Depression, and was a popular theatrical entertainment famous for spectacle, satire and sophistication.  Producers like Ziegfield and the Shubert Brothers featured performers like FAnnie Brice, the Marx Brothers and WC Fields to supply the belly laughs while amazing songs from Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hart, the Gershwins, Frank Loesser, Kurt Weill and Noel Coward (to name only a handful) provided the melodies.

SHOWTUNES presents a rare opportunity to witness first-hand the magic of THE BROADWAY REVUES in this two-hour homage.  For two performances only, revisit skits and specialty acts, and join a slew of Seattle's best and brightest as they croon such stunning songs as "Let's Fall In Love," "I'll Build A Stairway To Paradise," and "That's Entertainment!"  Come revel in this race down memory lane as SHOWTUNES brings to life an extravaganza of skits, jokes, and, of course, song.

THE BROADWAY REVUES was conceived, compiled and directed by Martin Charnin, SHOWTUNE's Artistic Director, with music direction by Suzanne Grant.

Charnin combed through the massive amounts of available and buried material to hand-select the tunes and jokes for THE BROADWAY REVUES, and enthusiastically explains his fondness for the material:

"Revues replenished the Broadway theater scene up until the advent of television. They evolved from a rich tradition of vaudeville, burlesque, and spectacles, and they were abundant with great songs and humor, which reflected the ever-changing styles and values of the time.  There were Scandals, and Follies, and Music Box Revues and the like... and they introduced the world to immortals such as Jerome Kern, the Gershwins, Al Jolson, Will Rogers, Jack Benny, Sophie Tucker, Fanny Brice, Fred Astaire, and Ethel Waters, to name only a few.  These two hours at the Moore are a loving tribute to my many months of research, and will give today's lucky audience a sampling of these lost treasures."

THE BROADWAY REVUES features the talents of local musical theater favorites Mark Anders, Shelly Burch, Cayman Ilika, Eric Jensen, Julian Schrenzel, Jenny Shotwell and Maggie Stenson, and will also spotlight the beautiful showgirl Jennifer Flood as well as the antics of Bob "Doc" Bailey, Showtime TV's "Funniest Person in Washington."
