Like their name, Neon Trees are a combination of slick pop hooks and sturdy organic rock, both melodic and hard-hitting, their anthems of adolescent angst, longing, love lost and found, delivered with the kind of heart-on-the-sleeve passion that only comes from hard work and commitment. Their Mercury Records debut, Habits, produced by friend, singer/guitarist Tim Pagnotta, is a refreshing blast of timeless rock energy and spirit that wouldn't sound out of place at any point from '60s garage-rock to 2010 dance rock, with the first single, "Animal," taking off from a round of weaving, angular guitars into a song equally at home in the arena as on the dance floor, a paean to sexual longing in which singer/front man Tyler Glenn wails, "Take a bite of my heart tonight.," and you have no reason to doubt his sincerity. Take hook-happy new wave, add to it the classic-rock story-telling humanity and leaven with other-worldly charisma, and you begin to understand the palette Neon Trees are working from. With their major label debut, Habits, Neon Trees light the fire.
Calobo
Date: Saturday, October 6, 2012 @ 9:00 PM
Venue: The Neptune (All Ages / Bar w/ ID) Price: $18.00 in advance, $20.00 day of show (not including applicable fees) Seating: General Admission On Sale: Friday, April 6, 2012 @ 10am Ticketing Information: Available online atTickets.com, in person at the Paramount Theatre box office (M-F 10am-6pm), 24-hour kiosks located outside the Paramount & Moore Theatres, charge by phone at (877) 784-4849, or online at STGPresents.org. Calobo, known for their energetic live shows, tight vocal harmonies and intricate musicianship, built a large and dedicated cult following in the Pacific Northwest through out the '90s. The seeds of the Portland, OR-based band Calobo were originally planted in the early '90s, when its founding members (and longtime friends), Caleb Klauder and David "Hobo" Andrews, began writing and playing music on Orcas Island in Washington State. Both members played acoustic guitar (with Klauder known to pick up a mandolin from time to time), and were soon joined by other members -- Jenny Conlee on piano, Kenneth Erlick on electric guitar, Michelle Van Kleef on vocals, Nate Query on bass, and Brian Bucolo on drums. Mixing their folk influences with long and winding passages from such renowned jam band trailblazers as the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers, Calobo immediately built a large and dedicated cult following in the Pacific Northwest. They ended a successful 10-year run in 2001 and are only now reuniting to perform again. Calobo will be performing 3 reunion shows: October 4th at The Knitting Factory in Boise ID, October 5th at The Crystal Ballroom in Portland OR and October 6th at The Neptune Theatre in Seattle WA.
