The Seattle Playwrights Salon presents Not Around Gordie by Jorj Savage on Friday February 10th at 7 p.m. at the Conservatory, 5813 Airport Way South, Seattle. Admission is free.

It's 1961 in Santa Monica, California. The influx of residents and vacationers, enticed by new attractions and abetted by cutting-edge freeways, threatens to change everything that California natives hold dear: unspoiled beaches, the slow pace of life, small town neighborliness, crystalline air, and unclogged roads. Hummer's Gas and Service Station, a small family business, is positioned to grow, serving drivers thronging to the exciting new Palisades Amusement Park. Mr. Hummer wants to turn over his beloved service station to his sons, Floyd and Gordie. But Floyd and Gordie have other ideas, and what they want puts them on a collision course with some new southern California realities. Written in 1962, Not Around Gordie explores the forces that came together to create today's southern California, with humor, eroticism, and history as fresh as tomorrow.

The Conservatory is a Seattle art space and coffeehouse, community meeting place, and artists' workshop in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood, a growing and glowing arts haven in Seattle near I-5, just north of Boeing Field. The Salon produces new play readings and full productions on the second Friday of every month at The Conservatory to give local playwrights a public place to present new work in development to a live audience. Wine, cider, and beer available for purchase before the show
