Seattle Opera launches a new chapter in its commitment to training young artists and preparing singers for opera careers with its new Seattle Opera Academy. Presented in collaboration with Seattle Youth Symphony's Marrowstone Music Festival, this three-week intensive training program for singers ages 16-22 will be hosted at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash.
"With educational and engagement programs for all, Seattle Opera aims to serve people who've never experienced this art form before, as well as those who live and breathe it," said the company's General Director Aidan Lang. "We are thrilled to be able to collaborate with Marrowstone Music Festival, the Pacific Northwest's premier orchestral training program, to nurture the next generation of opera singers."
The SO Academy will offer two different programs of study: the Principal Artist Program and Opera Chorus Program. Both tracks include opportunities for young performing artists to learn in the classroom and on the stage. All will participate in masterclasses, workshops, and performances, including Aaron Copland's The Tender Land on Aug. 4-5.
Auditions are required, to be submitted via YouTube, and financial assistance is available (more information here).
