Seattle Men’s Chorus Performs the Music of The Beatles, 3/31-4/1

At a time when marriage equality is top of mind for all Washington voters, Seattle Men's Chorus (SMC) is proud to share, through song, The Beatles' powerful messages of peace, love, and understanding. With their all-Beatles Spring concert, Come Together, the 250-member Seattle Men's Chorus, the nation's largest gay men's chorus, will pay tribute to the original mop-top quartet by belting out over two dozen faithfully arranged songs from the best-selling band in history.

"Because," "Imagine," "Eleanor Rigby," "Yellow Submarine," "Let it Be," "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds:" the list goes on. Seattle Men's Chorus will recreate this collection of Lennon and McCartney tunes in the same style as the originals. The Chorus will follow the same musical terrain, from mop-top hair and skinny ties to the psychedelic and colorful costumes including: mustaches, inscrutable uniforms, peace glasses, and batik shirts. 

This all-Beatles concert has been in the works for almost five years. The logistics of mounting this monumental concert became a possibility back in 1989 when a group of dedicated Japanese musicians undertook the daunting task of transcribing every single note of every Beatles song ever recorded. In their massive 1,100 page volume they captured every thread of the amazing musical tapestry that was "The Fab Four." From those pages Kevin Robinson, artistic director of Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus, began making choral arrangements and Seattle Men's Chorus' own artistic director Dennis Coleman knew his chorus had to play a rolE. Coleman explained, "I've wanted to do a Beatles concert for years because their music influenced me enormously when I was a student at the UW in the 1960s. Now, when I see how songs like Imagine can work as powerful rallying cries for today's critical issues of marriage equality and anti-bullying I know the timing couldn't have worked out better."
