Today Seattle Children's Theatre (SCT) announced the appointment of Kevin Malgesini as Managing Director, replacing former Managing Director Karen Sharp, who recently resigned after 19 years with the theatre. Starting May 21, Malgesini will lead SCT with Artistic Director Courtney Sale, who states, "Kevin is an incredible addition to SCT - bringing tremendous energy, creativity and experience that will complement our existing leadership team, as well as offer fresh approaches to our operations and development. I look forward to partnering with him to build upon SCT's exceptional reputation and continue to create life-changing experiences for children."
Malgesini joins SCT after spending five years at Town Hall Seattle, where he most recently served as the Advancement Director, spearheading a $27 million capital campaign to preserve their historic home and prepare for the next 100 years of community engagement. Town Hall Seattle's Executive Director, Wier Harman, noted: "Kevin has been a remarkable leader at Town Hall, as well as a vital part of the success of our capital project. We are a stronger organization for his time here, and we know SCT will also be stronger for his service. SCT is a bonafide local treasure-and a critical piece of the national theatre ecosystem-Kevin is the perfect leader to help shape their next chapter."
In addition to his capital campaign experience, Malgesini brings an extensive strategic planning and board development background, including a two year tenure as the Board President of Intiman Theatre, for which he has served as a trustee since 2011.
"As a native Washingtonian, SCT has been instrumental in my own life, setting a high bar for the caliber of theatre and theatre education every young person should have access to. And that legacy continues as I introduce my own nieces and nephews to their first professional theatre experiences here at SCT," said Malgesini. "I am thrilled to be joining the team at Seattle Children's Theatre to continue the legacy of bringing professional theatre with an emphasis of new works and education to young audiences throughout our region."
SCT Trustee Bob Evans, who led the search for the role, is eager to usher Malgesini into the fold. "Kevin is a natural born, data-driven leader. He has demonstrated deep compassion, empathy and transparency to inspire a creative, collaborative, positive and productive organization. Kevin's leadership style is a perfect complement to Courtney's vision."
The 2018-2019 Season was announced April 4, an ambitious lineup showcasing bold adaptations, updated timeless classics, and provocative stagings of historical works. Malgesini is energized by the promise of the 2018-19 season and its impact on the community, noting: "I am excited to partner with Courtney, the SCT board, and staff as we enter our 44th Season and look to the future as we write the next exceptional chapter. We are going to continue to build
the canon of new works for young audiences and fully commit to supporting diverse talent, on stage and off, which makes this community vibrant and builds towards a more just world."
