Seattle Center, in partnership with the Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative, seeks nominations of young people and youth organizations in Seattle that have led the way in promoting peace, youth violence prevention and the legacy of DR. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The 2011 DR. Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace Award recognizes and celebrates leadership in these areas in order to help prepare young people to engage in the struggle against poverty, racism, war and violence.
Nominees must be age 12-17 and live or go to school in Seattle, or be an organization serving those youth. The review committee will consider significant demonstration that the nominee or nominated organization promotes peace and/or youth violence prevention and carries out the spirit of the teachings of DR. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Deadline for nominations is Friday, Nov. 19, 2010. The Award will be presented at the DR. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration, Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, 1:00 p.m., at the Seattle Center House.
All nominees will be contacted by Dec. 31, 2010 and invited to attend the award ceremony. Nominees will be recognized for their service, and award recipients will receive additionally an award of $100.
