Enter a virutal Chinese garden and partake in cultural traditions covering 5,000 years of Chinese history in this celebration of one of the world's oldest cultures at Seattle Center Festál: A Glimpse of China - Chinese Culture and Arts Festival, Saturday, May 22, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., in Center House.

The festival showcases the unique traditional art and culture of China through visual and performing arts, gift booths, exhibitions. The one-day schedule includes Chinese music, dance, Wushu performances, works by nationally acclaimed artists, seminars and interactive activities.

A special feature this year is the 2010 Shanghai Expo's Extraordinary Pavilions exhibit, themed "Better city, better life." It features some amazing forms of art, architecture, technology, culture and other information about Chinese pavilions.

"Seattle Center was a world exposition site 48 years ago, and we believe the display of this year's Shanghai Expo will generate enthusiasm and inspire reflection back to the 1962 World's Fair. We also hope this exhibit will pique the curiosity of our next generation to learn more about other cultures and inspire them to become involved in art, architecture, city planning, and technology fields," said Washington Chinese Art Culture Committee Chair Ruoxi Zhang.

The Washington Chinese Art Culture Committee, which produces Glimpse of China, is a partner of the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair in 2012.

The 22 Festál cultural celebrations highlight The Common forms of tradition and expression among ethnic communities in the Pacific Northwest, while underscoring their unique creative contributions, customs, foods and ideals. Our 2010 "did you know" will explore some of these commonalities and differences.
