Seattle Theatre Group (STG) offers for the first time a weeklong overnight dance camp to complement its annual educational program DANCE This, which includes a training intensive and live performance at The Paramount Theatre. The camp will take place August 2-8, 2009 in Port Townsend, WA in partnership with Centrum at Fort Worden State Park.
DANCE This Camp provides an opportunity for high-school aged dancers at all levels to study a wide range of styles and techniques in a supportive, yet challenging atmosphere. The camp includes workshops in ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, salsa, and more that will be offered throughout the week. Each evening, students will work with a faculty artist to learn a specific type of choreography and will have the opportunity to develop their own dances. Faculty members include Siya Manyakanyaka-Kelley (African dance), Daniel Cruz (Hip Hop), Rachel Murray (Contemporary), and Amy O'Neal (Modern). On the final day, students will showcase their work to invited friends and family.
"We see this new residential camp as a logical next step to reach out to students throughout the state of Washington, especially students whose access is limited, to participate in a high quality arts experience," said Annenelia Bach, Program Manager of DANCE This Intensive and Camp.
DANCE This Camp is possible through a partnership with Port Townsend arts organization Centrum, located at Fort Worden State Park in Washington. Perched on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula, Fort Worden offers 450 acres of sandy beaches, wooded hills, wetlands, and a historic campus with stunning views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges.
