Seattle Theatre Group (STG) debuts YOUNG SONGWRITERS LAB, a summer training program in songwriting. Under the mentorship of professional musicians, students will learn creative approaches to song composition and lyric writing, along with strategies for navigating the music business.

Professional mentors include Sue Ennis (songwriter for Heart), Draze (hip hop artist and producer), Jill Wangsgard (composer, arranger, producer) and more to be announced.

"Two years ago we initiated Young Choreographers Lab, an annual program dedicated to young dance makers - and now we are excited to expand that program model to music and music business," said Vicky Lee, STG's Director of Education and Community Outreach Programs. "Through YOUNG SONGWRITERS LAB we will leverage the strong relationship STG has with local and internationally acclaimed musicians to connect Seattle's youth and guide them into becoming tomorrow's leading musicians."

YOUNG SONGWRITERS LAB is open to serious, aspiring musicians, ages 14 - early 20s, who are interested in growing as songwriters and performers.

The workshop is $150 (with limited scholarships available based on need) and runs Friday, July 30, Saturday, July 31 and Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 10:30am - 4:30pm at The Moore Theatre. For more information and to register call Claire Connell at (206) 467-5510, ext 1127 or email at clairec@stgpresents.org. Registration deadline is Monday, July 17, 2010.
