The Seattle Theatre Group, (STG) has announced the upcoming 2013-2014 season, with a fair amount of focus on performances taking place at a revitalized Moore Theatre. History has been made at The Moore and the future is about to get a bit brighter. This season offers a great opportunity for renewing a relationship with the oldest operating theatre in the city. STG is making transformative improvements that will significantly expand comfort and dramatically increase the ability for smaller, more "off-Broadway" style productions, including those produced by local theatre companies, to take place at The Moore.
Changes at The Moore will include new theatre seats to increase comfort for audiences enjoying the many groundbreaking youth music and dance programs and a variety of theatrical and music performances included in the season. A new curtaining system is also being installed to make smaller engagements and productions much more cozy and intimate. This facelift is STG's way of continuing collaborative stewardship of the majestic Moore theatre for the next generation of artists and audiences. The legacy continues, Forever Moore.
To kick off this season at The Moore, STG will present exciting works, including a couple of collaborations with Balagan Theatre, starting with, Carrie: The Musical, and continuing with Jerry Springer: The Opera. Balagan's faithful fans and subscribers will be able to take full advantage of the new Moore seats and curtaining system that will create an environment familiar to Balagan's audiences. In addition to the Balagan Theatre collaborations, the Seattle Theatre Group will also present The Infernal Comedy: Confessions of a Serial Killer with the talented and iconic John Malkovich, who over the last 30 years of his career, has appeared in more than 70 motion pictures. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Mavis Staples, kicks off the season at The Moore in September. The American treasure will be releasing a brand new album this summer. Her last album, You Are Not Alone, was a 2011 Grammy Award winner.
Also gracing the stage at The Moore will be the musical play, Peter and The Starcatcher, the winner of five Tony Awards in 2012. The piece, which the NY Times hailed as "the most exhilarating storytelling on Broadway in decades," is the innovative and imaginative musical play based on the best-selling novel, and answers the question, how did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Never Grew Up? This epic origin story of popular culture's most enduring and beloved character proves that your imagination is the most captivating place in the world.
Two great American dance companies return to The Paramount Theatre this season: Mark Morris Dance Group and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. MMDG performs Love Song Waltzes, New Long Song Waltzes and Socrates over Valentine's Day weekend 2014. With live instrumentalists and singers, this rich and thrilling feast for the senses is pure theatrical magic. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater never disappoints and consistently proves why this extraordinary company is hailed as America's cultural ambassador to the world. From the pulse-racing thrill of contemporary favorites to the spirit-lifting joy of beloved classics, these extraordinary dancers bring African-American cultural expression and the American modern dance tradition to life.
