Pratt Fine Arts Center Announces 2013 Art Bridge Fellowship Recipients

Pratt Fine Arts Center announces the 2013 Art Bridge Fellowship recipients. Artists Akiko Jackson and Jessica Hoffman will each be awarded $2,500 to be used towards class work, art supplies, studio rental, and art photography.

The Art Bridge Fellowship provides educational and professional support to emerging artists from Washington State, thanks to generous support from RBC Wealth Management and the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition. Admission into The Edge Program at Artist Trust is also a significant component of the award. During their tenure, recipients will be featured in a public presentation at the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition.

Akiko Jackson has completed her residency at Pottery Northwest and intends to expand her sculptural skills by enrolling in glass and metal classes at Pratt Fine Arts Center. Her work strives toward ever evolving forms and structures from chromosomal strands to architectural shapes found in nature. Jackson hopes to learn more about professional practices in the arts and contribute to the exchange of ideas in the Seattle art community. Jackson holds an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

Jessica Hoffman's work incorporates found objects and modes of communication that, because of new technologies, are on their way to extinction - typewriters, photographic slides, and even the innocent passing of love notes between classes in high school. She will use her time to explore various materials and media including printmaking, letterpress printing, book making, and photography and is looking forward to participating in The Edge Program with Artist Trust. Hoffman holds an MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking.
