Patrisse Cullors comes to Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) in Katherine L. White Hall, as part of a week-long residency on the Vashon Center for the Arts campus. Patrisse will speak on her new book An Abolitionist's Handbook: 12 Steps to Changing Yourself and the World.

The event is on April 8, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. (doors at 6:30)

Tickets: $15-$35 at www.vashoncenterfothearts.org

VCA believes programming that educates and enriches the community and thereby betters the world should be equitably accessible whenever possible-regardless of transportation, physical, or financial means. To that end, this event is broadcast without a paywall on the VCA website (suggested donation of $10) and will be ASL interpreted.

Patrisse Cullors is a New York Times bestselling author of When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir, as well as an educator, artist, and abolitionist. She co-produced the 12-part YouTube Originals series RESIST and continues to develop programming that amplifies the perspectives of Black people in America. As a visual and performing artist, Patrisse seeks to inspire dialog and action on systemic violence, state-induced trauma, and spiritual rejuvenation.

Patrisse Cullors was co-founder of #BlackLivesMatter and served as Executive Director for the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation. Patrisse is one of the most influential thought leaders in the nation and was included in Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2020.

Patrisse's residency coordinates with the Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) and Vashon Island School District (VISD) to educate and promote dialogue around social issues and examine ways to be an effective agent of change. In addition to the public event on April 8 (above), VISD Students (13+) will attend workshops with Patrisse to view and discuss the documentary, Eyes on the Prize: Hallowed Ground. Patrisse will also create a work of art on the VCA campus that will be part of a permanent installation and unveiled during her residency.
