Seattle Repertory Theatre presents Rebecca Gilman's critically acclaimed new play, Luna Gale, a powerful and arresting drama that follows the story of a social worker - played by veteran film, television, and theatre actor Pamela Reed - grappling with decisions that will forever change the course of a foster child's life. Directed by Seattle Repertory Theatre's Artistic Director Braden Abraham, Luna Gale runs March 4-27, 2016 in the Bagley Wright Theatre. Tickets are available now through the Seattle Rep Box Office at (206) 443-2222 and online at seattlerep.org.
Hailed as "One of this year's most valuable additions to drama," (LA Times), "excellent and intensely involving" (Chicago Tribune), and "Smart and absorbing"(The New York Times), Luna Gale is a haunting drama about the difficulty of knowing how to do good in the world. Who decides who is capable of raising a child? Caroline, a veteran social worker will do whatever it takes to protect baby Luna Gale, but her well-intentioned mission is swayed by hidden motives, buried secrets, and moral ambiguity.
"I'm thrilled to bring back Rebecca Gilman's work to Seattle Rep this season," says Abraham. Two of her other plays, Spinning into Butter and Boy Gets Girl, were produced at the Rep in the early 2000s. "Rebecca writes her characters with such compassion, creating fully-realized, complex roles that are so rich for actors."
Local celebrity Pamela Reed (NBC's Parks and Recreation; Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Seattle Rep) leads this cast as the conflicted social worker, Caroline. Abraham, who also directed Reed inWoolf?, notes that the role of Caroline is, "yet another exciting role to which Reed can bring her sharply focused intelligence and deep emotional sensitivity."
The cast also includes rising Seattle star Hannah Mootz (Bo-Nita, Seattle Rep) as Luna Gale's teen mother, Karlie; and Seattle favorite Anne Allgood (Broadway's Imaginary Friends; Boeing Boeing, Seattle Rep) as Cindy, Luna's devout grandmother. Drew Highlands (Balconies, Annex Theatre) as Luna's father, Peter; Pilar O'Connell (Christmastown, Seattle Public Theater) as Lourdes; Alex Matthews (Tartuffe, Seattle Shakespeare Company) as Cliff; and Adrian LaTourelle (Bell, Book and Candle, The Old Globe) as Pastor Jay round out the cast.
