Macha Monkey begins its 10th season of fearless, funny, female theatre this fall with Hearts Are Monsters. A comedy with deadly consequences, Hearts Are Monsters features 16-year-old Marcy, a genius with a misshapen head and a love of mole rats, her pretty twin sister Wendy (a former child star who now debauches), their drunk and lonely mother, and Daddy's ghost. He seeks justice.
The cast of Hearts Are Monsters includes Joey Gilmore as Jack, Karen Heaven as Mother, Erin Pike as Wendy, Erin Stewart as Marcy, and James Weidman as Coach Snell. Music by Rick Miller, set design by 2010 Gregory Nominee, David Gignac.
Playwright Blanchard is the author of Edith's Head and Small Town. She is a performer and playwright whose works have been produced in Seattle at the Annex Theatre (Edith's Head and Small Town), 14/48, On The Boards' 12 Minutes Max, The Mae West Fest, and as part of FringeACT. Outside of Seattle, Blanchard's works have been part of Eight Tens at Eight in Santa Cruz, the 2nd Annual Festival of New Short Plays in Belfast, Maine, and Perishable Theatre's Women's Playwriting Festival. She is a founding member of Seattle's Live Girls! Theatre.
Director Bret Fetzer is the former Artistic Director of Annex Theatre and the author of many stage plays and fairy tales. Bret's recent directing credits include Matt Smith's All My Children and Kelleen Conway Blanchard's Small Town. His many plays include Club Foot, or, Tales from the Back of an Ambulance, Planet Janet, Avalanche (written with Juliet Waller Pruzan) and The Changeling.
