Seattle Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Lance Miller to the position of Campus Manager. Starting this month, he will oversee event sales and servicing and the grounds and facilities at Seattle Center related to this line of business.
Miller brings a sharp expertise and seasoned background to the position, which is responsible for a significant portion of the department's earned revenue. He will work within the Marketing and Business Development Division at Seattle Center, directed by Marc Jones; and will represent Seattle Center, a City of Seattle department, in interdepartmental work groups including the City's Special Events Committee.
As part of his daily work, Miller will set strategy and customer service standards as he develops the business necessary to meet annual revenue targets of $1.2 million. He also will support the Center's sponsorship business, oversee the campus catering program for event clients and manage contract negotiations and pricing, revenue collection and other elements involved in booking events and executing hundreds of space rental and sponsorship agreements annually.
Seattle Center accommodates hundreds of community events and professional productions each year in venues that it owns and operates including KeyArena, Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, Fisher Pavilion, Exhibition Hall, Next Fifty Pavilion, Seattle Center Armory and a myriad of outdoor spaces including International Fountain and Mural Amphitheatre. The rental spaces at the Center house consumer trade shows and festivals, community meetings, non-profit fundraisers, business meetings and much more.
Miller brings an extensive event and facility management background to Seattle Center. Most recently he served as General Manager of Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, Calif. and previously as Manager Director of One Reel, producers of Bumbershoot, the urban arts festival held each Labor Day weekend at Seattle Center. Miller also directed the opening of the White River Amphitheater in Auburn, Wash.
As he takes on the position of Campus Manager, Miller joins a broad range of Seattle Center professionals who service the rental events, from sound and stage crews to carpenters, event planners and janitorial staff. He looks forward to exploring new opportunities for non-traditional use of campus spaces - and to supporting event needs to maximize their operational success. Miller understands the historical and current importance of the Center's many event venues as well as the need to stay nimble and entrepreneurial in their use, and he looks forward to helping to steward them far into the future.
