Please join us for another evening of curated YouTube videos and beer! YouTube has quickly become a world-wide phenomenon, connecting individuals to a global audience through videos ranging from absurd to amazing. It's all there, and it continues to grow into one of the largest and most popular resources of shared media. Kirkland Arts Center's BrüTübe makes use of this resource by inviting 6 guest "curators" to each present a 15 minute set, based on a pre-selected theme, using only videos available online.
The fifth in the series, BrüTübe: OMG-LOL-ASAP focuses on the increasing immediacy of our communications and how social media facilitates the weaving of humor into our daily lives. Sharing jokes in person has been replaced by sharing links to hilarious, idiotic, and often questionable videos online. Brevity and accessibility often trumps originality, while online content refers more and more to things only found online. Has the art of joke telling and comic timing been replaced by timely link sharing and a clip's "popularity"? Does office productivity hang in the balance? Have we seen the funniest cat video yet? For better or for worse, accessibility to such content will only increase in time. Perhaps the best defense is a good sense of humor.
Presentations will be projected to a large screen while you enjoy beverages and snacks in café-style seating. Don't miss it!
This free event will be held in the Kirkland Arts Center Gallery during the new exhibition TEN: Seattle Print Arts 2010 Anniversary , on view through Saturday, June 5.
BrüTübe is generously supported by Redhook Ale Brewery(beer) and Bellevue American Music (sound).
