CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
Art Book Workshop
Rebecca DeVere
Saturday, April 17, 10 AM - 6 PM
Make your very own art book! Use your book as a visual field guide of your journey, story, or to visualize intentions.  In this one-day mixed media workshop, students will work from a plethora of supplies (i.e., wire, string, and glue) and learn a variety of new techniques in order to alter their very own art book.  This workshop is a great way to learn how to use different adhesives and materials for future projects.  No prerequisites. Book and all supplies provided.

Beginning Oil Painting

Beginning Monday, April 5 (8 Sessions)
7 - 10 PM
Learn the basics of painting with oils, including handling and mixing paint, building and layering surfaces, and selecting brushes and painting implements.  This introductory class will also cover the basics of composition, color theory, pigments, and the safe use of solvents.  Painting on a variety of surfaces, such as canvas, panels, and paper, will be discussed.  Each class features demonstrations, practice time, individual interaction with the instructor, and informal critiques. 
Prerequisite: Drawing experience suggested.


Beginning Acrylic Painting

Beginning Thursday, April 8 (8 Sessions)
1 - 4 PM

Receive a thorough introduction to the versatile medium of acrylics. In this class, students will learn techniques and tools of acrylic painting, including paint handling, simple color theory, and composition. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills related to the tonal elements of art, such as line, shape, space, texture, light, and color. Students will be encouraged to work at their own pace and to explore a variety of subject matter and techniques. Returning students welcome.  No prerequisites.

Drawing 102

Saturday, April 10, 10 AM - 5 PM (1 session)

Build on skills learned in Drawing 101, or freshen up your drawing skills in this one-day workshop. Expanding on fundamental drawing concepts, students will draw from observation, practice "seeing" exercises, blind contour drawing, sighting angles and explore compositional relationships.  One hour lunch. Prerequisite: Drawing 101 or previous drawing experience recommended.

YOUTH CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
Art Explorers (Ages 5 - 7)
Betsy Smith
Begins Saturday, April 10, 9:30 - 11:30 AM (5 sessions)
Explore the world of art and imagination.  This class is filled with projects focused on exploring the young imagination through activities that teach the basics of drawing, painting, printmaking, and construction, while having fun playing with clay, paper, pencils, sponges, found objects, and more.  Come to the class ready to use your imagination and get a little dirty. All supplies included; no experience necessary.

Cartooning (Ages 13 - 15)
Greg Stump
Saturday, April 10,  2 - 4:30 PM (5 sessions)

Create your own characters for a finished comic story. Students in this class will move from pencil roughs to finished inks, learning how to draw faces, figures, simple animation, and perspective.  Different styles and elements of storytelling will be examined, such as exaggeration, perspective, layout, and composition.  No prerequisites.  Supply list available online.

Clay? III investigates the increasingly important role of ceramics in contemporary art. Using recent technological advances and working with contemporary concepts, ceramic artists are building on clay's rich tradition to create new and innovative work. This biennial exhibition features 20 pieces selected by the UW ceramic professors from over 200 national and international submissions.


Timea Tihanyi installation at KAC's store
Kirkland Arts Center is proud to present Fuzzy Anatomies, an installation by Timea Tihanyi, currently on display at KAC's store, has.  Blurring the distinction between geography and anatomy, the meticulously constructed sewn and cut felt structures address experiences of desire, accessibility, physicality, and the boundaries of the body.

With each purchase, you'll be providing essential support to individual artists and to Kirkland Arts Center programs.
