Jet City Improv will start off 2015 with the world premier of The Modern Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, an improvised play that puts an audience member's mystery in the hands of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective.
Inspired by recent re-imaginings like the BBC's Sherlock and CBS' Elementary, The Modern Adventures of Sherlock Holmes will create a new story at every performance based on a seemingly uncomplicated mystery suggested by the audience. Every story will unfold live and without a script as Holmes and Watson navigate the seedy underbelly of modern-day London in search of answers.
Of course, the fact that the case was accepted by the great Sherlock Holmes in the first place means the mystery is sure to be a more sinister, complex, and thrilling tale than originally thought.
"Beyond being set in 2015, this show lives in the present more so than any other recent adaptation of Sherlock Holmes because our Sherlock will be looking to solve the case of someone right there in the audience," says creator and director Douglas Willott. "She may even look for suspects among the crowd."
Christine Riippi, who will be playing the legendary detective, calls the opportunity "both exhilarating and intimidating."
"Sherlock Holmes is such a beloved and well-known figure, so it is an exciting challenge to incorporate the rich history of the character while adding our own modern spin," she says.
The cast features a collection of improvisers and comedians from across Seattle: Christine Riippi as Sherlock Holmes, Amalia Larson as J. Watson, Chris Allen, Joel Dale, Alison Luhrs, Stephani Thompson and John Wachter.
The Modern Adventures of Sherlock Holmes runs Thursday and Friday nights from Jan 8 to Feb 13 with a special opening night gala on Jan 8 featuring a Q&A with the actors followed by complimentary cake and champagne. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 (with ID) for students, seniors, and military personnel and TPS members.

About Jet City Improv Presents
The Modern Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is the newest installment to Jet City Improv's line of improvised plays. Unlike most short-form improv formats that involve improvisers switching from game to game and creating brand new scenes every time, Jet City Improv Presents is an ongoing series of longform improv shows that present one or many stories around one cohesive theme. So while a Jet City Improv Presents performance may have the look and feel of a rehearsed play, the art of improvisation lies at the heart of the story along with all the sets, costumes, and thematic rules. Thanks to audience participation, no two performances are ever alike.
